For the second week running Chiefs E-Sports Club have taken top prize once again in the JAM-STAH Overwatch weekly as teams look to pick up momentum heading into a busy weekend for the ANZ region.
A few tournament changes for this week caused a bit of unease with the removal of the losers bracket and change from BO1 to BO3 with a BO5 final. With some notable teams missing from the brackets, it was wide-open for newcomers to push into the finals. Untitled Spreadsheet received the most praise after running undefeated to the grand final. In the final set Chiefs held Untitled Spreadsheet off to maintain their domination of the region.
The final was an intense battle with a close overtime-checkpoint in game 2 being broken by a double Winston combo from Untitled Spreadsheet. This allowed them to push through for an offensive win on Watchpoint: Gibraltar leaving Chiefs to chase a time of 10:07. Chiefs came out strongly on offence to take the win, coming out of game 2 at a score of 4-1 under Gamestah’s newly-implemented scoring system.
Game 3 saw Chiefs finish the final set at a score of 5-1 with their experience on capture maps really showing as Jake “Termo” Hickman finished the game with 85% kill participation on his Winston. Chiefs take home $120 for their efforts heading into a busy weekend with 3 tournaments for the region.
We can expect more minor changes to Gamestah’s tournament format in the coming weeks in an effort to find the best format for both players and viewers alike. Keep informed via Gamestah’s Twitter and website for any information regarding the tournaments and tune in next Thursday at 7:30PM AEST on Gamestahtv for week 3!
