The long running eSports centered gaming festival is prepared to throw the second large open tournament for Overwatch.
Fans of Overwatch are in for another exciting weekend at Dreamhack Austin, where participants in the BYOC will have the opportunity to compete in an open Overwatch tournament. This is the second open tournament at a popular gaming festival for Blizzards’ upcoming FPS, and shows good initiative on Blizzard's part to make the competitive aspect of the game as accessible as possible to potential future stars. The Overwatch esports rally will feature tournaments on Saturday and Sunday, with prizes being provided by Razer. Seamus Anderson and Joshua Lee will provide commentary for all on-stream matches, which can be viewed at Twitch.tv/Seltzer.
Dates:
- Saturday, May 7th 11:00 am CDT / 9:00 am PDT / 6:00 pm CEST
- Saturday May 7th 5:00 pm CDT / 3:00 pm PDT / 12:00 am CEST
- Sunday, May 8th 2:00 pm CDT / 12:00 pm PDT / 9:00 pm CEST
Prizes:
- 6 Razer Overwatch-themed Chroma Suites
- Play-of-the-game (Semi-finals): 2 NZXT S340 Designed by Razer cases
- Play-of-the-game (Final): 1 New Razer Blade laptop
Unique to this tournament will be its method of scoring. Stopwatch will not be used to decide winners, nor will Blizzard's own competitive format be used. Teams will be able to gather points throughout the match instead. For every tick of a capture point capture, and/or every Payload checkpoint, the team will score 1 point. These points will then decide the winner either in the Bo1 early round matches or in a presumably Bo3 Finals. Ties will still be decided with a single round Control tiebreaker.
