Welcome back to another issue of True Blue, GosuGamer’s very own blue post tracker. As usual, if it’s blue and it’s on the forums, you’ll find it here. This week we have a bit on the Corrupter, some gossip about the number of players allowed in StarCraft 2 custom games, and some theorycrafting discussion about how damage is calculated in StarCraft 2.

These new developments with the Corrupter constitute the first official discussion of Zerg mechanics in quite some time. The topic in question was the effect of using the Corruptor’s attack on allied units to turn them into turrets, and, more specifically, could it be used to turn allied Colossi into turrets in order to make them able to attack air. While he stated that he has never seen this mechanic in play out in a real game, Lead Designer Dustin Browder did confirm that allied units, even Colossi can be corrupted. However, he went on to say that – like most things Zerg – Blizzard is not totally satisfied with the way things are working out. According to Browder, “It's not really working the way we want it to. It's not really promoting changes in how you play.” If a few more tweaks aren’t able to bring the Corruptor up to speed, it could undergo a major mechanics change.

Another question posed was concerning the number of players allowed on custom maps. Browder stated that, while an official number has not been decided, at least 12 will be available in order to facilitate the continued success of custom game types such as Tower Defense and Defense of the Ancients.

Now, on to the theorycrafting! An inquisitive poster on the Battle.net discussion forums raised the question about how damage is calculated for units whose attack hits more than once, such as the Goliath’s missiles from StarCraft 1. Browder explained that damage is calculated on a per hit basis, and that bonus damage from upgrades or damage type bonuses therefore accrues on both shots. On the flip side, however, damage reduction from armor is also calculated against both shots.

That just about does it for this week. Tune in next week and a happy Valentine’s Day from GosuGamers.net!
