Which free agent should I pick for Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.1's anniversary?
Lucia, Jane, Trigger, Soldier 0 Anby or Hugo? Here's who gets the most value from Zenless Zone Zero's free anniversary S-Rank selector.
HoYoverse is pulling out all the stops for Zenless Zone Zero's second anniversary. Version 3.1 lets every player claim a free limited S-Rank Agent simply by logging in during the Marcel Anniversary Gift event, alongside a free limited S-Rank W-Engine, 1,600 Polychromes, an exclusive anniversary title, and an exclusive avatar.
That's a generous haul, but the real decision comes down to the free Agent. With Lucia, Jane, Soldier 0 Anby, Trigger and Hugo all available, you can only choose one. If you're struggling to choose, here's who we think you should pick.
Should you pick Lucia from Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.1's free S-Rank selector?
Lucia is the strongest pick from the anniversary selector thanks to her outstanding long-term value and future-proof role in the meta. As the premier support for Rupture teams, she enables one of Zenless Zone Zero's newest archetypes, while remaining flexible enough to benefit future releases built around the same playstyle.
Lucia is one of the top suggested picks for Version 3.1's Marcel Annversary gift.Unlike many damage dealers that can fall out of favour over time, Lucia's value comes from strengthening an entire team. That makes her a far safer investment than most of the other anniversary choices, especially for players looking to maximise their account over the long term.
Players who already own Lucia also have a compelling reason to pick her again. Her first Mindscape Cinema provides a meaningful increase to her overall performance, making M1 one of the strongest duplicate upgrades available from the selector.
You should pick Lucia if:
- You don't own her yet.
- You're building or planning to build Rupture teams.
- You want the strongest long-term investment.
- You already own Lucia and want to unlock M1.
Skip Lucia if:
- You have no interest in Rupture teams and would rather invest in another archetype.
- If you dislike 'high cortisol' characters who have a boisterous personality.
Should you pick Jane from Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.1's free S-Rank selector?
Jane remains one of the game's strongest Anomaly damage dealers, and her value has only increased with the arrival of Remielle in Version 3.1. Players investing in Anomaly teams will find Jane to be an excellent addition, capable of delivering some of the highest damage in the game with the right teammates.
Jane's value has increased with the arrival of Remielle. While she isn't as universally valuable as Lucia, Jane has a much higher priority for players already committed to the Anomaly playstyle. If Remielle is part of your future plans, Jane becomes an even more attractive anniversary pick.
Players who already own Jane should also consider using the selector to unlock her second Mindscape Cinema, which provides a substantial upgrade and remains one of the better duplicate investments available.
You should pick Jane if:
- You're building an Anomaly-focused roster.
- You plan to pull or already own Remielle.
- You already own Jane and want to unlock M2.
Skip Jane if:
- You don't play Anomaly teams.
- You have stronger limited Anomaly picks.
- You're looking for the strongest all-round anniversary pick, where Lucia remains the better choice.
Should you pick Soldier 0 Anby from Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.1's free S-Rank selector?
Soldier 0 Anby is still a powerful Electric Attack Agent capable of dealing excellent damage, but she doesn't offer the same level of account value as the Agents above her.
There are only a few Electric Attack agents in the game, so investing in Soldier 0 Anby isn't a bad deal at all.Unlike Lucia, who enables an entire archetype, or Jane, who thrives in one of Version 3.1's strongest team compositions, S-Anby is primarily a straightforward DPS. If you need an Electric damage dealer, she'll perform exceptionally well, but she won't transform your roster in the same way the top recommendations can.
That said, players who already enjoy her playstyle or have invested in her teammates shouldn't hesitate to pick her. Strong damage dealers are always valuable, and S-Anby remains more than capable of clearing the game's toughest content.
You should pick Soldier 0 Anby if:
- You want a powerful Electric DPS.
- Your roster already supports her teams.
- She's one of your favourite Agents.
Skip Soldier 0 Anby if:
- You're looking for the biggest overall account upgrade.
- You need a more versatile long-term investment.
Should you pick Trigger from Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.1's free S-Rank selector?
Trigger is excellent at building Daze and creating openings for her teammates.Players have been spoiled for choice when it comes to Stun Agents. With excellent options such as Dialyn, Nangong Yu, Norma, and even long-standing favourites like Lighter and Lycaon, adding another premium Stun Agent to your roster may not offer the same value as strengthening another role.
That doesn't mean Trigger has fallen off. She still excels at quickly building Daze and creating openings for her teammates, making her a reliable addition to a wide range of teams. If your account is missing a premium Stun Agent, Trigger is still an excellent pick that can comfortably carry you through endgame content.
Another thing to note is Trigger's agent story and trust events are both silly and very touching.
You should pick Trigger if:
- You don't own a premium Stun Agent.
- You need a reliable Stun character for multiple teams.
- You prefer her playstyle over the other anniversary options.
- You're looking to complete Lighter and Lycaon's “kindergarten for stun agents”.
Skip Trigger if:
- You already own more than three of these stun agents: Dialyn, Nangong Yu, Ju Fufu, Norma, Lycaon, or Lighter.
- You're looking to strengthen another role on your account instead.
Should you pick Hugo from Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.1's free S-Rank selector?
Hugo may be the “heart-over-meta pick” among the bunch.Hugo is the most niche pick from the anniversary selector. While he can deal impressive damage in the right team, his place in the current meta is far more limited than the other available Agents.
Totalize teams haven't found the same level of success as many of the game's other archetypes, and Hugo's team building can be awkward. He also competes with other Attack Agents such as Harumasa for teammates, making him a less flexible option for players trying to optimise multiple teams. Unless you're specifically building around Hugo, you'll generally get more value from the other anniversary picks.
That said, if you're picking with your heart instead of your tier list, or the aura farm life simply chose you, Hugo is still a solid pick. His signature Lycaon, Lighter and Hugo team remains a fun composition, and if you've already invested in it or simply can't say no to your husbando, the free selector is the perfect opportunity to pick him up without spending your Polychromes.
You should pick Hugo if:
- You're ready to embrace the Lycaon, Lighter, and Hugo aura farm team.
- You want Hugo for his trust events and agent interactions.
- You've been waiting for the perfect excuse to bring your husbando home.
Skip Hugo if:
- You're after the most flexible pick from the anniversary selector.
- Your tier list wins arguments against your heart.
Should you pick Astra, Vivian, or Seed from Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.1's Filmgoer Thank You event?
As a bonus, Version 3.1 also features the Filmgoer Thank You event for players planning to spend during the anniversary. By reaching the required spending milestone, you'll be able to claim another free limited S-Rank Agent, this time choosing between Astra, Vivian, and Seed.
If you're already aiming for the reward, here's who deserves your pick.
Astra, Vivian, and Seed are all up for grabs too if you're planning to spend a lot in Version 3.1.For most players, Astra is still the strongest choice. She remains one of Zenless Zone Zero's most versatile support Agents, fitting comfortably into almost any team while providing excellent long-term value. If you don't already own Astra, she's easily the safest pick from the Filmgoer Thank You event.
Vivian comes in a close second, especially for players investing in Anomaly teams. Besides being an excellent support in her own right, she also enables the Abloom mechanic, making her a natural partner for Agents that can take advantage of it. Players building around Remielle or looking to unlock Vivian's first Mindscape Cinema will get plenty of value from choosing her.
Seed is the most niche option of the three. While she has teams where she performs well, they're considerably more restrictive than Astra's or Vivian's, and she doesn't currently hold the same place in the meta. Unless you're already committed to her playstyle or you're specifically building one of her teams, the other two options will provide better long-term value.
Choose Astra if:
- You don't own her yet.
- You want a support that fits into almost any team.
- You're looking for the strongest long-term investment.
Choose Vivian if:
- You're building Anomaly teams.
- You want to enable Abloom teams.
- You already own Vivian and want to unlock M1.
Choose Seed if:
- You're already building one of her teams.
- You enjoy her playstyle more than the other options.
Ultimately, there's no single "correct" anniversary pick. Some players will be chasing the strongest meta teams, while others are finally grabbing a favourite Agent they've been waiting months to own. That's the beauty of a free selector.
Whichever Agent you choose, make sure to claim your rewards before the anniversary events end. Opportunities to get free limited S-Rank Agents don't come around often, so make the most of Zenless Zone Zero's second anniversary while they're here.
Zenless Zone Zero Version 3.1 will arrive on 29 July.
