The German-based eSports league operator 4PlayersLeague is allegedly closing in 2013.
According to reports of the German page TheOrigin.de, 4PlayersLeague will be shutting down operations this year. 4PL is run by the Gaming magazine 4Players, which was bought by the Nuremberg publishing house Computec in 2012 after the bankruptcy of 4Players' previous owner Freenet.
As TheOrigin reports, the 4PL will seize all operations within a period of six months. Reasoning behind shutting down league operations is said to be cost cutting, which is not limited to the 4PL only, but also affects the 4Players gaming editorial staff. Layoffs allegedly have already started.
4Players has been running since 2010, intended to be a multi-game operator for eSports leagues and tournaments. Most prominently 4PL had temporarily run a Starcraft 2 team league, a CS:GO pro league and has held 30 Play4Dota2 cups, most of the time in partnership with Sennheiser, featuring weekly prize money tournaments in Dota 2.
GosuGamers has approached 4PL officials, but has neither received a confirmation nor a denial of the reported closure in 2013.
