Virtus.Pro will be the first team to advance into the grand final after a 2-1 win over Team Dignitas in The Defense last night. Team Dignitas will be facing the winner of Fnatic.EU versus Team Liquid in the loser bracket final.
Virtus Pro have defeated Team Dignitas in the winner bracket finals of The Defense 3 in a convincing 2 - 1 series.
With the victory, Virtus.Pro is now guaranteed a second placing in The Defense and they will be facing either one of Fnatic.EU and Team Liquid or Team Dignitas again.
The games from yesterday were an interesting affair with Team Dignitas picking a very similar line-up three times in a row. Aui_2000 also took up the Visage for all three games while Waytosexy filled the role of carry throughout.
Game one
Team Dignitas struggled between drafting what they wanted to and convention. As such they were left with odd, mismatched picks that failed to mesh together. Batrider was forced into the jungle and their expertly crafted tri-lane of Visage, Luna and Ancient Apparition was left with nothing to fight, leaving underleveled supports that couldn’t make an impact elsewhere. They were easily brushed aside by the more conventional and adaptive line-up of Virtus-Pro.
Game two
In the second game, with their first picks, taking the form of Ancient Apparition, Visage and Clockwerk, and with Luna and Beastmaster picked up later. It quickly became clear that Dignitas were sticking to their aura based, strong tri-lane strategy and they were going to make it work. Despite early game struggles, their focus in mid-game pushing and team-fighting quickly became too much for the less specialised line-up of Virtus Pro. VP was left with their heroes tugging in different directions unable to work together effectively.
Game three
Dignitas picked up the same opening three heroes yet again. Virtus Pro, naturally, banned out the final two and Dignitas were left helpless and exposed. Silencer, as talented as he is at winning mid-lane and Faceless Void, who picked up no farm in a Tri vs Tri situation were unable to do the job. Suggesting that while Dignitas’s brave new line-up worked in practice, it was too easily telegraphed and disrupted. Virtus pro hacked through the Dignitas line-up quickly and were able to book their place in the Grand Final without much trouble.
The next game in The Defense will be the loser bracket semi-finals between Team Liquid and Fnatic.EU. The game scheduled at 11th of March 22:30 CET will be the fourth place decider of the tournament.
