After all the game's polish, melee carries are still in a rough spot compared to the typical AP, AD, Support, Bruiser set-up and Riot looks to fix it in the future.
In the earliest phases of the game's life, melee carries such as Master Yi and Tryndamere were extremely dominant to the point where they were nearly unstoppable and their snowball could not be diminished. Nowadays, the CC is too heavy and the heroes are too squishy to make much of an impact in the current meta-game, so nearly 100% of all carries are ranged.
Nowadays, the viability of melee lies in their damage soaking ability as well as disruption, but none of the real "bruisers" retain the DotA-like feel of a melee carry tearing everything to shreds once six items is approached. Riot is looking to fix this and formulate a plan for those kind of heroes to be viable.
