One Trick Pony prevails in CIS Showmatch Tournament
On February, 10th the CIS client launched a unique event, letting the best teams of the Russia and the Ukraine clash against top teams of Europe for bragging rights and a little purse for the winner. Prevailing was One Trick Pony saving the honor of Europe as the dominant region.
The tournament started out with a huge upset as QsQ and Mistral Gaming went down to fairly new teams in the CIS region, two teams that just recently emerged to the top status in their server region alone. To counter those early setbacks for the Europeans One Trick Pony and Pikachu saved face and delivered victories against the two best teams of CIS, setting up interesting battles in the Semis.
Special about those Semis was the distribution of regions in the portions of the bracket, as the Europeans faced each other and the CIS teams squared off against each other. Thus a big and final clash for region supremacy was already secured after the first round.
On top of that both Semis delivered a lot of entertaining and tense situations in both matches, both going the full distance of three matches. In the end One Trick Pony edged out their European rivals in Pikachu, while iTS defeated the QsQ-slayers of GZ. Due to the timezone difference and the scheduled HoN Tour match of One Trick Pony, the finalists agreed on rescheduling the match to today, February, 15th.

In those matches One Trick Pony wasn't having the easiest time at all, but actually got into quite a slump at the beginning of the first and initial match of the series. After a couple of miscues and communication errors the team found themselves behind by seven kills after just about ten minutes of playing time - calling for a comeback. The Swedish squad delivered that comeback by having the better late game, setting up a 1-0 lead, heading into Map 2.
Said map went a lot smoother for the team, although they didn't play flawless by any means. Still it was enough to take over the mid game of that match and steering the ship safely to victory.
One Trick Pony did not only win for the prestige of the European and International server region, but also takes home $500 USD for their victory. iTS can still enjoy a huge spark in publicity about that new team, while getting paid $250 USD as prize money.
