Known territory

The matchup between these two teams has been the "trademark" final for several tournaments in the last month. It all started at the DreamHon Online Summer Championship series, when Mynuts and his squad (noobG, Limmp, PabloMcDad and fajN`) met compLexity Gaming in the Grand Finale. The result was clear: it slingshot compLexity Gaming to the top of the HoN world - a spot that they did not lose for month to come.

The second meeting, actually two meetings, occurred during the DreamHon Redemption tournament, where the two squads met in the Upper Bracket as well as in the Grand Final to fight for bragging rights. Both matches went to coL, but Trademark eSports always managed to take at least one map - something that was very uncommon in tournament matches at that time.

Another confrontation between the two teams actually happened with the relaunch of the Honcast website, were a 1v1 challenge was hosted and those two standouts were picked to fight it out. That win for Trademark did not only catapult zai` to legendary status, but also proved that Trademark eSports could win against coL - even when it was "just" a 1v1 exhibition match.

They showed the same level of talent a couple of weeks later in a real 5v5 match in the final of the Vanguard tournament, where both teams once against squared off for the overall victory. For the first time tdM not only saw eye-to-eye with coL, but actually was able to defeat the Americans in a Best-of-Three series. Still with Haxxeren missing from the lineup, being replaced by former captain and drafter Tralfamadore, lessened the impact of that match substantially.

The real head-turner happened last week in the HonTour Qualifier, when compLexity Gaming and Trademark eSports met, this time uncharacteristically in the Lower Bracket. coL won the first map and everyone thought that the game would go the usual route, but tdM prevailed with some innovative and sneaky drafting by iNsania, who put all his eggs in one basket - that basket being a push strategy. In the end tdM was able to apply too much pressure on coL to bring them to concede two maps, resulting in their first loss in months.

This tournament

In the current tournament both teams ran through their group stage with only slight slip ups. compLexity was able to win three matches, most notably the important opener against the Americans from Gary Johnson 2012. That victory was followed by a sweep against paiN Gaming and later on a victory over Cats Gaming. The only tie happened in a "meaningless" match for coL, after they already clinched the playoff spot, playing against the sensation of the event - Orange eSports.

Trademark eSports stomped both of their opponents on the opening day walking over QsQ and vTi.Dynasty in the process. Those early victories paired with draws by competitors like QsQ and Tt eSports brought them in a very comfortable spot for the rest of the group stage, actually clinching the playoff spot before their last match against Tt eSports.

In the actual playoffs both teams looked very impressive with compLexity Gaming sweeping the high-profile team of Tt eSports and Trademark taking out Orange eSports with marvelous plays. Setting up the epic match, the fifth chapter in the long saga between compLexity Gaming and Trademark eSports, the two strongest teams the world of HoN has to offer.

Brothers, confidence and history

The storylines for this great clash have been similar for the last months: Chessie and Limmp are still brothers, they are still very important pieces of their respective teams and they still have the same competitive history with their stint in the first edition of the It's Gosu roster. Even the fact that Mynuts and bkid don't get along with each other, limiting the direct scrims between these two teams to a total of almost zero is well documented and well-known.

New to this match is the confidence that both teams, namely bkid, iNsania and Mynuts have shown in interviews and S2 videos. After the success against Tt eSports bkid stated in a post-match interview that he does not care about the second Semifinal and that they will will the tournament regardless of the opponent. Those words still echoed in the ears of the audience, when the DreamHack Introduction video of Trademark eSports showed up on stream with iNsania and Mynuts stating, that they will definitely walk away from the DreamHack with the big World Championship to their name. iNsania even added that they will be making it in a easy two-match-series.

Now only the match, the head-to-head between the Giants of HoN will show, if Trademark eSports can fight the odds and reverse history, or if it will be business as usual and compLexity Gaming will celebrate the big victory on stage.
