10 years ago, it'd be safe to say that sitting at home, watching the Koreans duke it out in Starcraft was a very niche thing to do.

It would seem we are closer and closer to E-sports being in a stage where the western world views it as a standard media. At stream peaks alone, there were 1,154,000 people watching across the various platforms including Twitch, Own3D, and the various multilingual streams provided.

That alone is impressive, but what is truly staggering is the addition of viewers added by Korean and Chinese television, which bumps it up to a mind-blowing 8,282,000 unique viewers! A total of 24,000,000 hours of League of Legends would be watched judging by those statistics.

If you wish to revisit those fond memories, Riot has released a recap video below of the staggering event.

This isn't just a big step forward for League of Legends, this is a big step forward for E-sports. Many years ago, a lot of us have dreamed the day that E-sports would make it big to the outside world, and that day seems to have finally dawned upon us. With Season 3 up and coming, we can only assume this will grow even larger.
