LGD, DK, Zenith and EG to upper bracket from group A
Group A of the preliminaries in Seattle is finished. LGD has topped the group, followed by DK. CLG has not made it to the upper bracket.
CLG are the tragic heroes of group A. They started as the powerhouse, going 6-0 after the first day. The second day was a disaster for them, tying the score 6-6. Now, after the Swedes' loss against Team EG, they even failed to reach the upper bracket. These are the final standings of group A:
As Dennis 'HolyMaster' Schumacher explained, tie-breakers will only be used in The International, if it comes to determining who proceeds to the upper bracket and who has to start in the lower bracket. For within-the-bracket positioning, coin tosses will be used instead. This way, we will see no tie-breaker matches in group A.
Team EG and Zenith as well as mousesports and Moscow 5 will be placed in the grid after a cointoss. Sadly, Moscow 5 would have had the chance to avoid this situation: The Russians showed up late at the location and were awarded by a default loss for this behavior. Before the tournament, it was said all teams received a Valve employee for guidance.
There are rumors which say M5 has not shown up, because they have forfeit the match against DK intentionally and want to prepare for the main tournament. If this turns out to be a good idea: We will see on Friday at the latest.
