January 27th is the date set as the come-back of the GomTV's Global StarCraft 2 Team League. The 2012 season of the GSTL will be revamped with a new schedule and format and will see another Korean-Western cooperation.
A total of ten teams will participate in the next GSTL and they will have to go through several rounds of Bo9 matches before determining the big winner. In picture, the scheme has the following form:
The transcription of the image above reads that there will be a total of three phases of the tournament, with the grand finalists of the last GSTL (Prime and MVP) being seeded directly into round two.
Round 1 sees the remaining eight teams play a series of matches to determine the top six. Those will consist of the four winning teams from the winners bracket and the two winners of the losers bracket.
Round 2 is a group stage with a format similar to the one used for the GSL. The group will start with the seeded team playing the losers bracket winner, followed by the two group winners from round 1. A total of five Bo9 series will be played to determine the top two of each group.
Round 3 is a top 4 direct elimination playoffs phase that will field the grand final winner by Week 10 of the tournament.
Matches will be played on Friday and Saturday each week, starting 10:10 CET on Fridays and 08:10 CET on Saturdays. The total prize pool for the event totals up to 52,000,000 KRW with the winner taking 30,000,000 of them (approx. €20,300).
In related news, the GSTL will see more foreign faces as StarTale has officially partnered their roster with Quantic Gaming. This means that there is a strong chance we'll see Swedish protoss duo Sase/Naniwa in action. Watch for their appearance during the second week of the returning GSTL.
