The first edition of Intel Extreme Masters for year 2012 is coming at the end of January. Korea, Europe and America are sending their finest to Kiev to fight for $21,000 and seeds for the IEM World Championship.
According to plan, IEM Kiev was supposed to feature players from a total of 5 regions, but due to various reasons such was not the case. The one spot reserved for China will be taken by Polish terran DieStar, since every Chinese player will be unable to attend and because IEM Kiev coincides with the Chinese New Yer.
The SEA slot has also been hard to fill since all the top eight players from the qualifier (including names like Yang, Iaguz, Enderr, Tgun and Moonglade) have cancelled their participation due to scheduling or visa issues. The spot was thus taken by Norwegian player Targa, who is currently residing in Australia and did compete at the SEA qualifier.
There is a change at the American contingent as well. qxc will take DDE's spot as the latter has also cancelled his attendance.
Finally, Intel Extreme Masters will fly four contenders from the far east to represent South Korea. Those include GSL, MLG and Blizzard cup champion MMA, Liquid's HerO (DreamHack Winter 2011 Champion) and Zenio and the half of Quantic's star protoss duo - Naniwa, who is currently residing in StarTale's team house in Korea.
