Jason Mercier proved once again that he is one of the premier tournament players in the world collecting his second WSOP gold bracelet in Event #35 $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha/Six Handed. The 24-year-old Florida resident added his second WSOP bracelet to wins at EPT San Remo, EPT London High Roller, a $1,500 WSOP PLO event, NAPT Mohegan Sun Bounty Shootout, NAPT Uncasville High Roller to bring his live winnings to over $6.1 million.
Mercier outlasted a total of 506 players and this was his second WSOP bracelet. His first bracelet came in 2009 also from a PLO event ($1,500 buy-in).“It feels awesome to win a second gold bracelet, especially in PLO. I won my first one in PLO. It just feels amazing. I’ve had so many deep runs so far at this year’s series, so it feels good to close it out.”Mercier became only the second player, after John Juanda, to add a bracelet in 2011 to his previous haul in the first 35 events of the WSOP.“This is up there. This has to be at least second and third [most memorable victory]. I’d say that San Remo is still my biggest win and most important because it was my first one ever, but this bracelet feels better than the first one.”Despite reaching the final table as the big stack, Mercier still had to overcome an tough remaining group of players which included 4 times WSOP bracelet winner David Chiu, Mike McDonald, Joseph Ressler, Steve Merrifield and Hans Winzeler.
Mercier earned almost $620,000 for his win and he has now earned over $6.3M from live tournaments during his career. He has also done very well online, and has won at least one WCOOP title.“It is important to me that everybody know I am one of the best. I feel like I am getting to that level if not already there. Winning tournaments, especially winning bracelets, just adds to that. I feel like if I win a third one, that’ll do even more for me. I’m just ready to play as many World Series events as I can and win as many bracelets as I can.”
Final table results from the $5,000 PLO/6-handed final results:
1. Jason Mercier $619.575
2. Hans Winzeler $383.075
3. Steven Merrifield $239.100
