DreamHack Summer is finally over, guys! After nearly the three exciting days of international StarCraft 2, it is now time to turn gaze to the grand final of GSL Super and see how MMA and Polt found out who is the better terran.
Game 1 @ Belshir Beach While MMA went for the very characteristic of him hellion drop, Polt threw down a double rax stim opening, hiding his marauder barracks out of scout range. When MMA tried to elevate his units, he was greeted by the enormous bio force of Polt and immediately lost all his marines. With having barely any units at all, MMA could not hold Polt's counter push and just died to the overwhelming forces.
MMA's drop is turning out bad
Game 2 @ Metalopolis. If Polt won the first set with some sneaky play, this time the Prime terran had a much more in-your-face style, going on the offensive early on with faster stim timing. Some engagement mistakes by MMA cost him to lose his third orbital and when he could not deal with the contain of Polt effectively, the MLG champion fell some 20 supply behind. A second push by Polt came while he was getting up his own third and once again he found a nice present - another orbital of MMA fell down in seconds. As MMA cleaned the Polt forces, he tried to do a last chance counter push but Polt's remacro capabilities were unmatched.
Not the best day to be an MMA orbital
Game 3 @ Crossfire. The game entered a hilarious state when both players started killing each other's SCVs: Polt with his stim tech from game 1 and MMA with his blue flame hellion opening. Soon both were down to mining with MULEs alone but Polt had the enormous advantage of having a gold base, hidden from MMA's sight. The Slayers player eventually discovered it and tried to deny it with banshee and hellions but Polt was quick to react every time and did not suffer significant damage.
The process of resurrecting the economies took a good 7-8 minutes and Polt continued to be in an advantageous position due to his second base. He kept trading armies for higher tech units of MMA and after the latter lost his last two siege tanks, Polt marched up the ramp and ended the game.
Polt winning a most important battle, sniping MMA's siege tanks
Game 4 @ Dual Sight. While Polt opened the set quite normally this time with a 1-rax CC, MMA took the liberty to come out in style and went for a ghost rush on the back of hiding a gold base. That was not successful to say the least and after the only casualties that MMA could take were two supply depots, the MLG king had to fall back and defend the banshee harass of Polt. MMA was a bit slow, though, having devoted most of his army to the push and the two banshees reached 15+ kills in total, most of them in SCVs. Having twice the worker count, Polt knew that the wisest thing to do is keep sending units forth until MMA is dead.
With 72 supply to 27 and two tanks to none, Polt seizes his first GSL title
So this is the final story of Polt in the GSL Super. The underdog went through Maka, Huk, Alicia, TOP and MMA to win the $100,000 by beating the ace of team Slayers and the TvT beast with a 4-0 score in under one hour. What will be the fate of Polt in the coming GSL/GSTL season? We are soon to find out!
