Ben 'milkybarkid' Grundy to take on Isildur1 in SuperStar Showdown
The latest high stakes pro to step up to play Viktor "Isildur1" Blom in the SuperStar Showdown is Ben 'milkybarkid' Grundy. The youthful looking but highly experienced 30-year-old U.K. pro has a long history of battling at high stakes PLO online.
Historically, Grundy hasn't played on PokerStars, but recently he was able to deposit money sufficient to take on Blom in the challenge. Apparently they had had some epic matches when Blom was coming up on iPoker so this will be a higher stakes rematch of those earlier days.
Grundy recently had attention drawn to him when people doubted his claim that he had won over $8 million over his career playing PLO. He had posted an amazing graph that some had doubted, but Grundy countered by issuing a monetary challenge to anyone who could prove he hadn't won at least $5 million.
Either way, Grundy will need all his skills and good fortune to take down the seemingly invincible Blom in the SuperStar Showdown. That latest victim was Terje "Terken89" Augdal, where Blom won Augdal's entire $150,000 match bankroll in roughly 1500 hands of the scheduled 2500 hand match limit.
Shortly before that match Blom had dispatched Rui "PepperoniF" Cao's $150,000 in similar fashion.
Blom has now accumulated over $650k in winnings in his eleven SuperStar Showdown matches, which have gone a long way to reducing his regular cash game losses on the year. Blom effectively moves to 10-1 in the challenges, with his only full heads-up match his first to Isaac Haxton. He has defeated Daniel Negreanu, Scott Palmer, Tony G, Eugene Katchalov and Dan ‘jungleman12’ Cates, Rui "PepperoniF" Cao along with a couple qualifiers.
