Lock Poker, the former sponsor of Jose "Girah" Macedo, is currently pursuing legal action against their former pro.
Lock Poker dumped Macedo as one of their pros soon after the hole-card sharing scam was revealed to the public. Macedo reputedly defrauded a number of fellow high stakes players of at least $30k.
In the following days, as the forum-led investigation dug further into the scandal and revealing details of additional elements of the cheating scandal that involved a $100k chip dump, suspect winnings during the Lock Pro Challenge and multi-accounting instances, Lock Poker was conspicuously silent. Lock chose not to contribute information that could have substantiated or denied alleged charges. Many had wondered why Lock Poker wasn't able to spot the apparent fraud through their internal security measures when such large sums (e.g. $100k heads up chip dump from Haseeb Qureshi to Macedo) were involved, and after supposedly auditing Macedo's account after detecting multi-accounting during the Lock Pro Challenge.
The Macedo cheating scandal came at a bad time as the Merge network that Lock Poker is located on is re-opening to U.S. players after resolving customer service and financial transfer issues.Eric Lynch, Lock's poker room manager commented “We do realize that ongoing silence can lead to people jumping to conclusions. What happened goes against the very core of our player based philosophy and we intend on exercising our legal rights in the most severe degree. We will keep you updated as things progress.
It’s [lawsuit] being filed in the near future, once it is the details of what exactly the purpose is will become clearer. There is still some due diligence that must be done first, but I advised it would be better to comment as best we could for now rather than stay silent.”In a possible attempt to defer attention away from the scandal, Lock Poker announced the signing of popular female poker player Leo Margets as the latest player to join Lock's sponsored pro team.
If and when Lock Poker reveals internal details of its investigation, final resolution and clarity may come to the roles that Dan ‘jungleman12’ Cates and Haseeb Qureshi played in the cheating scandal, multi accounting and chip dump.
