A lot of gamers might question if Blizzard’s soon to be released codename Titan MMO could equal the popularity and the force brought by World of Warcraft. World of Warcraft is one of those successful role playing games released by Blizzard featuring the return of Deathwing, the Destroyer to Azeroth.
The new project Titan had with them the best of World of Warcraft developers. In terms of quality, no doubt that it is also one of the best. Pearce said that this is both an advantage to Titan MMO for having the leading developers and for the team members having a new project to avoid burning out. The solid succession plan of Blizzard really benefits different aspects of the company.
But according to Frank Pearce, Blizzard EVP, the real concern would be Diablo III cannibalizing World of Warcraft players before Titan could do. Diablo III features a similar isometric view as its predecessor, Diablo and Diablo II, but will be created completely in a 3D-environment. This RPG has no official released date yet. For Pearce, it is a fact that somewhere, sometime, World of Warcraft players would be cannibalized by other non-Blizzard games, so it is better if cannibalism will be done within the scope of Blizzard. There will be no lost because they remain customers of Blizzard.
In terms of the idea Blizzard monopolizing the gaming industry, Pearce totally disagree with that. He believed that the market of MMO is too large, so sharing customers is not a problem. Plus, these games that are created for almost two years would be finished by enthusiasts in just months or weeks. So there is really a great chance for others to grow in this industry.
For Pearce, no matter what the games are, as long as it provides an overwhelming gaming experience, rooms for new games will always be there.
