Newcastle based poker player Gareth Walker emerged victorious in the largest UK-based poker tournament ever. Walker defeated Brett Angell heads up to take down the £109,000 first prize after a ten-hour final table.

Walker made the final table in last year's Nottingham event settling for eighth and £7,600, but was determined to reach the top this year. Angell, who pocketed £68,700, had taken a tough one outer beat that would have propelled him to the chip lead with two tables remaining. He saw a couple more massive pots go against the odds at the final table, but that's poker.

The United Kingdom Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) set a new record this week for most poker players in a UK based tournament when 1,058 played in the £500 buy-in UKIPT Nottingham main event at the Dusk Till Dawn poker club.

Final table results:

1. Gareth Walker, UK £109,000
