“The one with the better insight of the game has the upper hand when a game is first revealed, that's why I'm returning as a progamer when Starcraft II is released” - Garimto
Facing Bright in the Starcraft II exhibition game at the e-Stars Seoul 2009 made, the former progamer and mastermind of Protoss, Garimto, decide to return as a progamer when Wings of Liberty launches. Kim "Garimto" Dong-Soo, winner of the Ongamenet Starleague twice, speaks up in a very interesting interview at Fomos.kr after the exhibition games.
“
Reading your opponent is even more important than in the original Starcraft, and that is what makes Starcraft II so beautiful
”After playing the game, he explains that the game is more fast-paced than Starcraft, and that the decision making is much more crucial now than ever. You can now select all your larvas at once, the construction time for buildings is much faster and you can mass-select units. All of these factors maybe makes things a little easier, but don't forget it's easier for your opponent as well, so there's a lot of things to be done much faster than the prequel. Also, according to Garimto, every move has to be carefully thought through, or else you might lose the game. What units you decide to warp-in with Protoss could be even more important than macroing.
The older players did better when Starcraft first came out, because the fast reaction of the younger players doesn't help out much when you don't have a proper insight of the game. That's how Boxer became so successful making up his own strategies that no one had thought of before, and that's how Garimto has an equal chance to get good at the game as others.
“If I ever get to play on stage in the future, I will do my best to always put on my best performance,
in the name of Garimto
”We'll wish him the best of luck in the future, and hopefully we'll see Kim Dong-Soo succeeding once again!
