Today the Group Stage of the ONE Esports MPL-Invitational 2023 came to an end, as we saw eight teams moving into the playoff stage, while another eight saw their tournament lives come to an end. For some teams, this ended a rather poor year of MLBB, while for others, it was a shock elimination – without any victories for some.
DEWA destroyed
After a victory and a loss on Day 1, DEWA United Esports needed to secure a win over the North Americans, TheOhioBrothers, if they wanted to make it through to the playoffs. Unfortunately, after ToB claimed a win over Nova Esports, they were on a high and took a fantastic win over DEWA too – securing the second place spot in Group A and joining AP.Bren in the next round. DEWA and Nova were unable to really find their footing and would be watching from the stands.
HomeBois ahead
Yesterday Blacklist stumbled to a loss against HomeBois and they made up for it today by taking down Geek Fam ID, making sure that the Indonesian team found no happiness in Group B. For HomeBois, a strong three-game streak took them right to the top of the group, leaving GFID and Team Falcons to face elimination.
Robots malfunction
With a Day 1 victory over ECHO, Bigetron Alpha seemed to be on a path forward into the playoffs – especially with their challengers for Day 2 losing their first games. However, it was not their day, as they opened with a loss to EVOS Legends, before Rebellion Zion continued to show their improvements with a win to secure their path into the playoffs. Unfortunately for the White Tigers, even the win today was not enough for them to move forward, while ECHO managed to go onward.
A shocking group
Group D had four extremely massive teams going into it, but only two made it out – namely SeeYouSoon and RSG PH. Oddly, it was Team Flash and the currently struggling Rex Regum Qeon finding themselves unable to reach the playoffs. RSG, on the other hand, dominated the group, while the Cambodians of SYS began to show their brilliance.
From Friday, November 17, 2023, we will head into the playoff stage of MPL-I, as we now move into a double elimination best-of-three bracket all the way through to the Grand Finals – which will be a best-of-five brawl for the title.
