For MPL SG Season 6, all eight teams which participated in the Regular Season made their way into the Playoffs, but Day 1 would see two teams eliminated in the first two series. EVIL, Alchemy SG, Vanguard Esports, and Stellark SG all found themselves in the lower bracket, fighting tooth and nail to avoid an early elimination, while the upper bracket had Team Flash, Bleed Esports, RSG Singapore, and Homebois SG, hoping to find a quick path into the grand finals.

Evil triumphs

With the first of two elimination series for the day, we saw Evil and Alchemy going head-to-head in a best of three series. For Alchemy, after an extremely poor Regular Season with zero victories under their belt, this was their chance to finally show some resilience against a team which barely missed out on the upper bracket. Alchemy seemed to have the upper hand as the series began, pushing their opponents back and taking a lead with Icon’s Martis at the head of their kills. Unfortunately, after a few technical issues, Alch could not close out with a victory and went down 0-1.

Game two saw another fantastic performance from Alch, with Pacifist’s Claude leading the path forward. This time, the team were able to secure the win, tying up the series and take us to a crucial game three. With another early game lead, thanks in part to Icon’s Lancelot, it seemed as though Alch would claim their first victory. But, unable to close out the game again, the team were flustered, and Evil took complete advantage to secure a 2-1 series win.

Stellark struggles

With one team eliminated, it was time for another to leave the tournament, as Stellark SG and Vanguard Esports headed into the Land of Dawn. While Stellark’s Regular Season was extremely poor, finding only a single victory, Vanguard faired a little better, but still fell short. However, for these two teams, it was clear that this series meant a lot, as neither wanted to give up game one. After a fierce back-and-forth, VGD managed to finally close out the win, taking the first game for themselves.

Although it was still close in game two, VGD seemed to be in complete control, even after going behind on the scoreboard. It took around 20-minutes, but the team were able to cruise through into the next round of the lower bracket, sending Stellark SG home from MPL SG Season 6.

Day 1 of MPL SG Season 6 continues, with two upper bracket series still to come, but unfortunately for both Stellark SG and Alchemy SG, their chances of becoming champions or reaching M5 end here. The two victors from the lower bracket, Evil and Vanguard Esports, will both be back in action tomorrow, now awaiting their next challengers in the lower bracket.
