• Roguelike that combines platforming with deckbuilding
  • Special Sleep Phase allows you to forge a path ahead
  • Use items and gear to make your journey easier

Indie developer Indiana Kuffer has just announced the release of their latest game, Tower of Nod, a challenging roguelike journey which combines platforming with deckbuilding in a dark world. Add to that distinctive sleep-based controls, and you're bound to embark on an adventure like never before.

In Tower of Nod, you play as a hero in a sort of purgatory as he’s caught between wakefulness and dreams. Your job is to scale an ever-shifting tower filled with traps, monsters, and unexpected encounters. While that may sound daunting, the real challenge is something else entirely.

A twist comes in the form of the Dream Phase, which you enter into when your character falls asleep. Here, you have the power to control falling blocks that will help build your path forward. This sleep-based mechanic requires you to constantly shift between controlling your Hero and constructing a way up.

The roguelike nature means no two ascents are the same. Floors are procedurally generated and each one contains a mix of hazards such as bombs, flamethrowers, and rising lava, so you’ll always have to be quick on your feet. Along the way, you’ll find new block types, relics, and even allies, helping you adapt to the tower’s dangers while uncovering its secrets.

Using items around you tactically will prove to be quite beneficial. Springs can help you boost upward, healing auras will come in handy mid-climb, and balloons will help you float through tricky spots. Combine these items to create powerful synergies that maximise your chances, while keeping an eye out for valuable relics that add new skills to your arsenal.
