Some more details have emerged about the multiplayer chunk of Gameloft's upcoming army-man blaster Modern Combat 5: Blackout. It's all going to be about making friends.

The new Squad system lets you join together with a group of up to 6 people. They become your locked-in team for all the multiplayer modes.

There's a squad chat feature that lets you babble on exclusively to your squad mates as well. You could discuss tactics, load-out options, or how nice the weather is.

The multiplayer aspect is composed of four different modes - capture the flag, VIP, free-for-all, and team battle.

Squad mode lets you play the same games, but without the randomly allocated team that non-squaddies get.

Then there are leaderboards, both for your squad and for solo players, and limited-time events that offer better rewards the higher you finish.

Throw in the classes and unified progression that Gameloft has already announced and you're left with a multiplayer package that's actually looking quite impressive.

You can check out some screenshots in the gallery at the top of the page to get a better idea of what to expect. All of them feature shooting.
