Entering the grimdark universe of the 41st millennium, Space Marine 2 players encounter several factions. These factions form part of the war in the galaxy, each having its own motivations and allegiances. Here are all Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 Factions and what they do.

Ultramarines

Space Marine 2’s primary protagonists are no other than the Ultramarines. They showed what the Adeptus Astartes can achieve after being led by Primarch Roboute Guilliman. He now rules the Imperium as regent, reigning over the blue-armored warriors with tactical excellence.

These warriors are known for their unwavering loyalty to the Emperor. In the game, players can control the Ultramarine, Titus, who previously served as Guilliman’s honor guard. They are portrayed as powerful warriors capable of tearing apart enemies with their bare hands. Meanwhile, they are viewed as “angels” by regular humans, serving as inspiration to many.

Deathwatch

Operating under the shadowy Inquisition, the Deathwatch consists of veteran warriors from various chapters. This includes those serving penance for past mistakes, with the Deathwatch handling the most dangerous missions. They are often in charge of challenging quests that regular Space Marines cannot undertake.

Titus, then, started the game as Deathwatch member, serving after the events of the first Space Marine game. Although their appearance is limited to the game’s prologue, Deathwatch continues to showcase the complex politics within Imperium. More so, it displays the price of suspicion in a universe where corruption is thriving.

Astra Militarum (Cadians)

Like billions of regular human soldiers, the Cadians Shock Troopers form the backbone of Imperium’s military might. They are deemed as ordinary men and women compared to the genetically enhanced Space Marines. Also, they are equipped with nothing but training, faith, and lasguns. These heroes fight alongside the Space Marines against overwhelming odds, making their presence important.

Adeptus Mechanicus

On the other hand, the Adeptus Mechanicus are Space Marine 2’s technological specialists. These red-robed Tech Priests are Imperium’s experts in machines and artificial intelligence as divine entities. They originated from Mars and maintain Imperium’s technology alongside providing support to operations.

The Mechanicus often appear during rescue missions and Operations, where they guide players through complex technological challenges. These are essential to the complete Warhammer 40K experience, blending technology and religion.

Tyranids

Space Marine 2’s antagonists, Tyranids, are the biggest threat to all life in the Imperium. They are bio-engineered creatures controlled by Hive Mind from another galaxy. These Tyranids are attracted to the Milky Way by the psychic screams of the Horus Heresy a decade ago.

As a threat, they constantly came with massive swarms and waves of creatures across the background levels. They can easily overrun any unprepared defenders in the game. Eventually, players will face Hive Fleet Leviathan, the fourth major Tyranids invasion, consuming everything in its path regardless of faction.

Thousand Sons

Besides the Tyranids, the Thousand Sons also serve as one of the factions posing threats in Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2. They are corrupted Space Marines that fell to chaos during the Horus Heresy. The Thousand Sons are known followers of Tzeentch, the Chaos God of change and magic.

With this, they easily are the masters of psychic warfare that provides a switch-up in the game’s challenge. They possess magical abilities and cunning tactics that are far different from the straight-up brutal approach of Tyranids.

Chaos Space Marines

In Eternal War PvP mode, players can control the Chaos Space Marine legions, including the Night Lords and Iron Warriors. While limited to multiplayer content, these factions give players the chance to experience the corrupted side.

Conclusion

Together, these factions spiced up your Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 experience. From the protagonists Ultramarines to the antagonist Tyranids, they are guaranteed to boast unique personalities on the battlefield. These factions challenge your allegiance as corruption prevailed over the Imperium.
