Rebellion’s finally launched its newest entry in the tactical shooter market. This new addition to their series will be Sniper Elite: Resistance which comes out on January 30, 2025. Now, what should players expect from Sniper Elite: Resistance.

Same Formula, New Face

A fresh protagonist will make waves in the Rebellion’s shooter series, Sniper Elite: Resistance. It is Harry Hawker who replaces the longtime hero Karl Fairburne for this release. The game promises to be a running parallel to the events in Sniper Elite 5.

Sniper Elite: Resistance will put players in the shoes of the British Operative during the preparation of the French Resistance for D-day landings. Yet, the game will still keep the traditional formula that fans expect from this new addition to the series.

Also, there will be some returning features like the X-ray Kill Cam. This allows players to see the detailed slow-motion sequences of bullets through enemy anatomy. However, it has a lesser impact today compared to the older years. Some are choosing to skip these sequences now to save time and immediately continue the mission.

Gameplay and Mission Structure

Sniper Elite: Resistance will also keep the traditional large, open-ended maps that the series consistently offers. It’ll allow players there to approach objectives in many ways they can think of. The map can also cater to the use of differing gameplays such as stealthy infiltration or aggressive combat.

Besides, Rebellion made sure to maintain the solid core sniping mechanics along with the game’s ballistic physics model. Meaning, it’ll take into consideration the wind, bullet drop, and positioning in Sniper Elite: Resistance.

But the downside of this game is that it stumbles in close-quarters combat. Their cover system becomes unreliable while the non-sniper weapons’ aim feels unwieldy. Plus, there are inconsistencies in basic movement mechanics such as climbing over obstacles. So these alone can be frustrating to some players in intense matches.

What’s New (and What’s Not)

There is very little in terms of innovative changes for Sniper Elite: Resistance. Currently, Rebellion’s most notable addition will be the Propaganda Challenges system. Through this, players can unlock time trial missions where they find propaganda posters during the campaign. Yet, rather than exciting, these challenges are forgettable since it’s only around three minutes of basic timed scenarios play.

Ultimately, many are expressing concerns over the complete copy-paste of Sniper Elite 5 skill tree to Sniper Elite: Resistance. There were no modifications or improvements that could distinguish each other apart. Besides, they also reused the maps and layout, even missions in the same location. That’s why for some it feels like a DLC rather than a full-fledged sequel.

Multiplayer Shines Bright

Now, where do Rebellion’s Sniper Elite series shine the most? The fitting answer will be its intriguing multiplayer offerings. Sniper Elite: Resistance supports a full two-player co-op which gives players a cross-play experience.

Then, they also bring back the Invasion mode where some of the most thrilling moments happened. With this Dark Souls–inspired, players can infiltrate others’ campaigns as enemy snipers. It will create an intense cat-and-mouse chase between these players across the expansive map.

Furthermore, it also has a better competitive multiplayer mode, which is “No Cross.” This divides maps symmetrically while letting the snipers play long-range duels. Indeed, the multiplayer will offer a very unique experience that many will enjoy.

Conclusion

So, what do you think of Rebellion’s latest Sniper Elite: Resistance? Surely, there were ups and downs in the game that they can work on to improve in the future. If you’re craving for a multiplayer tactical shooter then Sniper Elite: Resistance is perfect. However, just make sure to manage your expectations from the game.
