Surviving an expedition in Sand: Raiders of Sophie isn’t just about collecting valuable loot—it’s about escaping with it. Every weapon, resource, and rare item you’ve gathered is lost if you fail to extract, making a successful evacuation the most important part of every raid.
Unlike many extraction shooters, you can’t leave the map whenever you want. Instead, you’ll need to reach a radio tower, call in an extraction ship, and defend yourself until it arrives.
Find a Radio Tower
Every extraction begins at a radio tower, which serves as the evacuation point for your raid.
To locate one:
- Open your map by pressing M.
- Look for the white door icon that marks a radio tower.
- Travel there using your Trampler, or continue on foot if your vehicle has been destroyed.
Once you’re within roughly 200 meters of a tower, the game adds a waypoint to your HUD, making it easier to reach the objective.
How to Call the Extraction Ship
Reaching the tower is only the first step. To begin the extraction process, climb to the top of the structure and interact with the radio.
Doing so will:
- Launch a green flare into the sky.
- Summon the extraction ship.
- Start a countdown timer before pickup.
When the ship arrives, it lowers a rope. Grab onto it and remain attached until the countdown finishes. Once the timer reaches zero, you’ll successfully extract and keep everything you’ve collected during the raid.
Calling for extraction comes with a major risk. The green flare is visible from a long distance, alerting nearby players to your location. Expect other raiders to investigate, as eliminating you before the extraction completes allows them to steal your loot.
How Extraction Works in Voyage Mode
Voyage Mode is designed as the game’s more relaxed experience and is an excellent starting point for new players.
In this mode:
- Radio towers are available throughout the session.
- You can extract whenever you’re ready.
- There is no overall raid timer forcing you to leave.
This gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace before deciding to evacuate.
The tradeoff is that Voyage uses persistent servers. Since players can join and leave at any time, some landmarks may already have been looted before you arrive, reducing the amount of valuable gear available.
Extraction in Storm Dive
Storm Dive significantly raises the stakes.
Unlike Voyage Mode, extraction points are not immediately active. You’ll need to survive until they become available before planning your escape.
Once radio towers activate, it’s important to move quickly because:
- Each radio tower can only be used once.
- Other players can consume an extraction point by escaping before you arrive.
- A shrinking storm gradually cuts off parts of the map, making some towers inaccessible.
Keeping an eye on your map and preparing an alternate escape route can make the difference between a successful extraction and losing an entire expedition’s worth of loot.
Plan Your Escape Before It’s Too Late
Learning how extraction works is one of the first major skills every Sand: Raiders of Sophie player should master. Whether you’re exploring freely in Voyage Mode or fighting against the clock in Storm Dive, understanding when and where to extract is just as important as winning battles or finding valuable resources.
A well-planned escape route—and the ability to defend it—will consistently help you leave the desert with your hard-earned loot intact.
