Most Fortnite players landing at Shiny Shafts this season walk straight past Jess without buying the Super Shredder. They want either the Chaos Reloader, Iron Pump or something that hits hard up close. That logic is fine, and it works. But the Overwatch collab that dropped Act 3 on May 14 quietly changed the math on what the Super Shredder can do, and a lot of players are only now catching on.

That system is now in the game. It is called Tracer’s Pulse Pistols, and the combo changes the Super Shredder from a situational pick into a genuinely annoying playstyle that a lot of opponents are not ready for.
What the Super Shredder Actually Is
The Super Shredder originally came from Fortnite’s Save the World mode before being added to Battle Royale during Chapter 7 Season 2. It works like a shotgun that thinks it is a sniper. When you aim down sights, the spread tightens to a focused cluster of pellets, which is why it can hurt players at ranges where a Chaos Reloader or Iron Pump would barely tickle them.
Epic nerfed it quickly after launch. The max damage cap dropped, body damage at range was cut, and the headshot multiplier was raised to 3.25x to compensate. The gold rarity now caps out at 150 max damage. That ceiling matters. The purple Chaos Reloader already deals 147 body damage with zero headshot required. If you are just looking at raw burst numbers, the Super Shredder loses that comparison almost every time.
So why pick it up at all? Because raw numbers are not the whole story when you can control the range of every fight you take.
Why the Overwatch Update Matters for This Gun
Act 3 of Chapter 7 Season 2 launched the Fortnite x Overwatch crossover on May 14, 2026. Tracer, Mercy, Genji, and D.Va all came to the island, bringing their signature abilities with them as loot pool items.
Tracer’s Pulse Pistols are the ones that matter here. Equipping them puts you into a first-person view, and you get access to Blink, a short-distance dash that recharges on its own over time while you hold the pistols. You also get a Recall ability that can rewind your position and health a few seconds if a fight turns ugly.
Before Act 3, the Super Shredder had a range advantage that players could counter fairly easily. Shockwave grenades, Overdrive items, and the gloves all made it simple to close the gap on any opponent who was trying to hold distance. The season had so much mobility that outranging someone was not a reliable strategy.
Tracer’s Blink flips that. Now the Super Shredder user is the one with the mobility advantage. You can dash sideways or backward every time you take a shot, keeping yourself out of close-range shotgun territory while your opponent burns their gap-closers trying to reach you.
The Combo That Is Confusing People
The core loop is simple once you see it.
You shoot the Super Shredder, swap to the Tracer Pistols, and immediately Blink. Then you repeat.
In standard zero-build play, the time between shotgun shots is usually filled by swapping to a spray weapon and dumping bullets. With this combo, you are filling that window with movement instead. You are not just surviving the gap between shots. You are actively making yourself harder to track and harder to hit, while also staying at the range where your shotgun is strongest and your opponent’s shotgun is nearly useless.
When it clicks, the damage numbers look completely lopsided. You hit them for 80 to 100 or more per shot at range. They hit you for 20 or 30 because their weapon is not built for that distance. The fight feels unfair to them because they are used to everyone trying to get close.
The direction of your Blink matters. Dash to the side or backward. Avoid dashing toward the enemy, because that defeats the whole point. If someone is rushing you and gets inside your range, dash back in the direction they came from to reset the gap. Keep the distance, keep the advantage.
One practical note on timing: the Pulse Pistols recharge their Blink charges over time while equipped. If you go into a fight with your charges depleted because you used them in the last engagement, the whole strategy collapses. The one situation where this loadout really hurts you is getting third-partied right after a fight before your dashes are ready again. That is the main risk and the main thing to manage.
Two Bonus Situations Where the Super Shredder Shines
Glove uppercut exchanges. A lot of players use the combat gloves to uppercut enemies upward, then shoot down on them. If someone uppercuts you first, the instinct is to shoot back immediately and hope you win the damage race. The better play with the Super Shredder is to uppercut yourself in response. That creates vertical distance, which turns the exchange into a ranged fight where your shotgun outperforms theirs.
Mercy’s Caduceus Staff aerial plays. Act 3 also added Mercy’s Staff, which lets you glide through the air without making much noise. Dropping on someone from above while holding the Super Shredder works well because the tight spread keeps pellets on target even at the increased distance of an aerial engagement. Most other shotguns lose effectiveness during that kind of drop.
Where to Pick One Up
The Super Shredder is not a common floor loot drop. The most reliable way to get it is buying it from Jess, an NPC vendor at Shiny Shafts on the Chapter 7 Season 2 map. She carries five in stock per match, so multiple teammates can all grab one if you land there early. The price is 500 Gold Bars at Rare rarity. You can also complete the first three quests in Jess’ Working with Jess Questline to unlock it as a reliable drop option.
Land near Shiny Shafts, loot the nearby buildings to build your Gold Bars, buy from Jess before anyone else, and rotate out before the area gets contested.
Should You Actually Switch to the Super Shredder?
Probably not as your main shotgun if you play in chaotic, close-quarters situations. Inside buildings, in late game box fights, or in clustered multi-player chaos, you cannot freely spam your dashes and the lower raw damage starts to hurt you. In those fights, the Chaos Reloader or Iron Pump will do more work with less setup.
But if you like open fights, if you often find yourself getting pushed by opponents who want to sprint into close range, or if you enjoy making your enemies feel like they cannot figure out what is happening, this loadout is worth running for a few sessions.
The Super Shredder plus Tracer Pistols combo is rated A-tier by PC Gamer’s current Chapter 7 weapon rankings. That sits below the Chaos Reloader at S tier, but above most of the loot pool. The combination of mobility and range control is the reason for that placement, not the raw damage numbers alone.
Try it in at least a handful of games where you actively look for open space to fight in. Avoid buildings when you can. Keep your Blink charges ready before every engagement. Once the pattern clicks, the fights start going your way in a way that feels almost unfair.
Act 3 runs through June 5, 2026, when the Shattered Live Event is expected to close out the season. There is enough time left to get real mileage out of this combo before the meta resets again.
