Riot Games Introduces Parental Controls for League of Legends, VALORANT, and TFT
Riot Games has rolled out a new parental control system for the PC versions of League of Legends, VALORANT, and Teamfight Tactics in the United States. The feature gives parents more control over how underage players communicate and access Riot’s games, while preventing minors from disabling restrictions on their own.
The company says the system is designed for players under the age of 18 and will expand to additional regions in the future.
How Riot’s Parental Controls Work
To enable parental controls, a Riot account belonging to a player under 18 must be linked to a parent’s email address through the account settings. After the email is verified, parents gain access to Riot’s new Parent Portal.
Once parental controls are activated, the linked child account cannot remove or disable the restrictions until the account holder reaches adulthood.
What Parents Can Control
The Parent Portal includes several options for managing a child’s account, including:
- Disable text chat and voice chat.
- Limit communication to friends only.
- Prevent sending or receiving friend requests.
- View the account’s current friends list.
- Restrict access to specific Riot Games titles.
- Completely block access to the account if desired.
These settings allow parents to decide how much social interaction is available while their child plays Riot’s games.
Privacy Limits Remain in Place
Although the Parent Portal lets parents see who their child is connected with, Riot has confirmed that it does not provide access to private conversations or gameplay history. The system focuses on account management and communication settings rather than monitoring in-game activity.
More Regions Planned
The parental control system is currently available only in the United States for the PC versions of League of Legends, VALORANT, and Teamfight Tactics.
Riot Games says it plans to expand the feature to additional countries in the future and intends to add support for the mobile version of Teamfight Tactics. However, the company has not announced a timeline for either rollout.
