Summary

  • Teamfight Tactics Patch 14.2 buffed Jarvan IV’s AD ratio, making him a viable 3-cost carry champion.
  • The Jarvan TFT carry comp is a variation of Vayne and Senna carry/reroll, which wants to hit 6 Slayer and 3-star 3-cost champions.
  • Jarvan IV can be built with 3 damage items or 2 damage items and a tank item.

Jarvan IV got buffed in 14.2 and emerged as a viable Teamfight Tactics (TFT) damage carry. Set 14: Cyber City has a lot of interesting comps, one of them being the currently overpowered Vayne Reroll. Jarvan IV acts as the primary tank for this comp, which features 6 Slayer units. In the Jarvan TFT carry, he instead becomes another damage dealer or a damage-tank hybrid in the frontline. Here’s how to 3-star, position, and itemize Jarvan IV in this strategy.

Itemization

TFT’s Patch 14.2 gave Jarvan IV the following buffs:

  • AD: 50 to 60
  • Base Ability Shield: 270/300/350 to 300/350/400
  • Ability AD%: 200% to 350%

Meanwhile, the upcoming patch 14.3 is set to nerf his Ability AD% back from 350% to 280%. While he woulstatic.aayyy.com/topic/dn/’t be dealing as much AD, he remains viable especially when in an uncontested lineup. Jarvan IV is ideally built as a tank carry, but his increased AD gives him better damage. Now, he can also benefit from AD items and be built as a melee damage dealer.

For a pure damage Jarvan TFT carry build, here are his best items:

  • Titan’s Resolve
  • Bloodthirster
  • Sterak’s Gage
  • Hand of Justice
  • Infinity Edge

In the early game, when you don’t have a lot of tank units yet, you can also put one or tank items on Jarvan first. You can later transfer them to Rhaast or another frontline unit when you build full AD items on him. Here are Jarvan IV’s best tank items:

  • Evenshroud
  • Redemption
  • Sunfire Cape
  • Gargoyle Stoneplate
  • Warmog’s Armor

Many players also opt to build Jarvan with two Titan’s Resolve and a Bloodthirster and even three Titan’s Resolve.

Team Composition and Positioning

The Jarvan TFT carry lineup is almost the same as Vayne Reroll or Senna Reroll. After all, they usually go well in a 6 Slayer team paired with other traits like Vanguard or Divinicorp. Here are the following champions that Jarvan IV can synergize well with:

    • Carry champions: Jarvan IV, Vayne, Senna, Zed, Shaco
  • Frontline champions: Rhaast, Dr. Mundo, Graves, Gragas, Alistar, Leona

Since Jarvan IV is originally a tank unit, the ideal position for him would be on the front and center hexes.

Levelling and Econ

Leveling and econ for a Jarvan TFT carry comp would be pretty much the same as every 3-cost reroll comp. Here’s a step-by-step guide for a 6 Slayer composition which you can use as a general reference:

  • Play around Bruiser and/or Golden Ox with the following low-cost champions:
    • Bruiser: Alistar, Dr. Mundo, Darius
    • Golden Ox: Alistar, Graves

You can also pair them with other low-costs with synergies like Techie or Street Demon.

  • Get Vayne copies if you can and Rhaast if you plan to build the Vanguard trait, but you can skip early on to save gold
  • On 2-1, level up to 4 and look to slowly add Slayers and your main carries on your bench.
  • Try to get 2 to 3 Slayers on the board if possible to build tempo, but don’t ignore other trait synergies. Replace one of your frontliners with Jarvan IV.
  • Prioritize components for Titan’s Resolve or other Jarvan IV carry items in the Carousel round.
  • Itemize Jarvan IV and your backline as soon as possible to go on a win streak. You can opt to put tank items on Jarvan IV early on.
  • Level up to 5 after Carousel and get 4 Slayers on the board when possible.
  • On 3-2, level up to 6 and prioritize Vayne copies. This is the level where players usually reroll for their 2-cost carries. Get Senna and Jarvan IV copies as well if they show up early in the Shop.
  • Try to get your carries to 2 stars during Stage 3. However, try to maintain econ until you reach 50g. Avoid rolling below 50 gold at that point onwards.
  • At Stage 4-1, level up to 7. Roll down to 50 gold to 3-star Jarvan IV with Senna and Vayne as secondary priority. You can also 3-star and itemize a good frontline unit like Rhaast if you naturally find a lot of copies and if you have the gold for it.
  • After 3-starring your 2-cost and 3-cost carries, level up to 8 to add more Slayer units and/or a strong 5-cost if you have a Slayer Emblem.
  • Focus on completing the 6 Slayer trait synergy, starring up your higher cost champions, and completing your other carries’ items for the last stages. You can level up to 9 and find more 5-cost champs if you have a strong econ and win streak.

Conclusion

Despite the very recent nerfs, Jarvan IV remains a strong tank and a viable carry unit in Teamfight Tactics. The Jarvan TFT carry comp capitalizes on his versatility as a damaging frontliner able to dish out heavy attacks. Looking to try this underrated comp but don’t know where to start?
