Cloth is an essential artisan good in Stardew Valley, used for Community Center bundles, tailoring, crafting recipes, quests, and several late-game features. While there are multiple ways to obtain it, some methods are much more efficient than others.

Here’s everything you need to know about getting Cloth, crafting it in bulk, and putting it to good use.

Fastest Way to Get Cloth

The easiest and most reliable way to produce Cloth is by processing Wool in a Loom.

Simply place one piece of Wool into a Loom and wait about four in-game hours. When the process finishes, you’ll receive Cloth. Since the crafting time is fairly short, setting up multiple Looms allows you to produce large quantities throughout the day.

To maximize production, you’ll first need a steady supply of Wool and access to the Loom recipe.

How to Get Wool

The primary source of Wool is raising farm animals.

Sheep

Sheep become available after upgrading your Barn to a Deluxe Barn. They cost 8,000g each at Marnie’s Ranch and produce Wool approximately every three days. Wool can be collected with Shears, or automatically by installing an Auto-Grabber inside the barn.

Rabbits

Rabbits require a Deluxe Coop and also cost 8,000g. They produce Wool every four days and occasionally drop valuable Rabbit’s Feet.

Other Sources of Wool

If you haven’t invested in livestock yet, you can still obtain Wool through a few alternative methods:

  • Purchase it from the Traveling Cart when available.
  • Receive it through the mail from Emily after reaching the required friendship level.

Once you have your first piece of Wool, you’re ready to start producing Cloth.

How to Craft a Loom

The Loom recipe unlocks automatically at Farming Level 7.

Crafting one requires:

  • 60 Wood
  • 30 Fiber
  • 1 Pine Tar

After placing the Loom on your farm, insert a piece of Wool to begin production. Four in-game hours later, you’ll receive Cloth.

Since each Loom can only process one Wool at a time, building several Looms is recommended if you’re raising multiple Sheep or Rabbits.

Wool Quality Affects Cloth Production

Unlike most artisan goods, Cloth production is influenced by the quality of the Wool used.

Higher-quality Wool has a chance to produce two Cloth instead of one.

Wool Quality Chance to Produce 2 Cloth Normal 0% Silver 10% Gold 50% Iridium 100%

Iridium-quality Wool always yields two Cloth, effectively doubling your production.

Keeping your animals happy, feeding them daily, and allowing them outside whenever possible greatly improves Wool quality, making long-term Cloth farming much more efficient.

Other Ways to Get Cloth

Although farming Wool is the most dependable strategy, several other methods can provide Cloth if you only need a few pieces.

Method Details Recycling Machine Processing a Soggy Newspaper has a small chance to produce Cloth. Skull Cavern Mummies can occasionally drop Cloth when defeated. Traveling Cart Cloth sometimes appears as a purchasable item. Desert Trader Every Wednesday, trade 3 Aquamarines for 1 Cloth. Desert Festival Emily exchanges 5 Cloth for 25 Calico Eggs during the festival.

These alternatives are useful early in a playthrough or when you haven’t unlocked Sheep and Rabbits yet.

What Cloth Is Used For

Cloth is required for a variety of important activities throughout Stardew Valley.

Community Center

One Cloth can be donated to the Artisan Bundle in the Pantry, helping complete the Community Center.

Tailoring

Obtaining your first piece of Cloth unlocks Emily’s Sewing Machine, allowing you to combine Cloth with other items to create shirts, pants, hats, and many other clothing pieces.

Crafting

Cloth is used in several crafting recipes, including decorative items and useful farm equipment. Keeping a small reserve on hand saves time when new recipes become available.

Quests and Special Orders
