What Is the World’s Game Update?

The World’s Game Update launched on May 28, 2026, introducing gameplay changes and a game mode patch, but the bulk of the new content — including all Football Ultimate Team (FUT) features — goes live on June 4, 2026. This update is EA’s celebration of the summer of international football, timed alongside the real-world international tournament. The Festival of Football event in FUT runs from June 5 through July 24, 2026.

Free 93-Rated ICON Pelé — Here’s How to Get Him

The biggest headline from this update is one of the most generous free cards EA has ever given out. Log in and play EA FC 26 between June 5 and July 24, 2026, and you will earn a 93 OVR Festival of Football ICON Pelé along with three Choose Your Journey Evolutions at no cost.

The three Evo paths you can choose from are:

  • ST path — grants Low Driven+

  • CAM/CM path — grants Incisive Pass+

  • LW/RW path — grants Finesse Shot+

Each Evo path is inspired by Pelé’s performances and key tournament stages from the 1970 World Cup. This mirrors previous free icon giveaways like the Zidane and Maradona login rewards from past EA FC titles.

The New International Tournament Mode

A brand-new standalone 48-team international tournament mode launches on June 4. It features 53 fully licensed and playable national teams, including 41 nations competing over the summer. You can choose from major footballing nations like Brazil, France, England, Germany, Argentina, Spain, and Italy, as well as emerging nations like Cabo Verde, Uzbekistan, and Indonesia.

The tournament structure mirrors a real international competition:

  • Three group stage matches per team

  • Top two from each group advance automatically

  • Eight best third-place finishers also qualify

  • Knockout rounds from the round of 32 through to the final

New true-to-life stadiums are included — Gillette StadiumBMO Field, and a new purpose-built arena called Central Maw — designed to capture the atmosphere of top-tier international football. The mode is also available in Career Mode, where you can add a national team to manage at the start of any new save.

EVO Undo: Roll Back and Reset Your Evolutions

One of the most fan-requested features in EA FC history is finally arriving as part of this update. EVO Undo goes live on June 4 via a server-side release and lets you fully reset or roll back evolutions applied to any card in your club.

Crucially, if you reset an originally tradable player, they return to tradable status — meaning you can sell them on the Transfer Market again. This is a massive deal for players who evolved expensive tradable cards like FUT Birthday items and want to recoup their investment. EA’s official notes confirm the feature is designed to “reduce the pressure of selecting the right evo for each of your players.”

PlayStyles Lab: Customize Your Cards

Building on the popularity of the FUT Birthday Bakery, EA is replacing it with the PlayStyles Lab, which allows you to choose your own base PlayStyles and PlayStyles+ on specific card types. The eligible card types include:

  • Festival of Football: Star Performer

  • Festival of Football: National Pride

  • Festival of Football: National Pride Champions

  • Glory Hunters cards

FUT Birthday items are also eligible, replacing the original Birthday Bakery Evolutions. Unlike fully evolved cards that become untradeable, players customized through the PlayStyles Lab and later had their evos removed will return to tradeable status, meaning you can sell them on the Transfer Market if they don’t fit your squad.

Festival of Football Tokens: A New Reward System

EA is overhauling how rewards work in FUT with the introduction of Festival of Football Tokens, a brand-new currency earned entirely through gameplay — not store packs.

Here is exactly how it works:

  • You can earn up to 1,000 Tokens per week

  • There is a total cap of 5,000 Tokens over the five-week Festival of Football season

  • Tokens are earned across Rivals, Squad Battles, Rush, Live Events, Objectives, and SBCs

  • Tokens will not be available through store pack purchases

A dedicated Token Store will feature players, packs, Evolutions, and club customization content. Rewards range from items costing 300 Tokens (redeemable instantly) up to 2,500 Tokens for the biggest prizes of the season.

Here is how Rivals and Squad Battles token earnings break down:

Mode Rank Base Tokens Upgraded Tokens Rivals Division 1 275 400 Rivals Division 5 175 400 Rivals Division 8 75 150 Squad Battles Elite 3 — 400 Squad Battles Gold 3 — 150

FUT Champions Token Store

Weekend warriors are getting their own dedicated rewards overhaul too. Starting in Season 8, EA is introducing FUT Champions Tokens and a FUT Champions Store featuring a rotating selection of special Red FUT Champions Player Items each week. Higher win finishes still reward additional coins on top of Champions Tokens, keeping competitive rewards meaningful for elite players.

Festival of Football Campaign Schedule

Five major FUT campaigns are confirmed between June 5 and July 24:

  • Path to Glory (June 5 – June 19) — Live player items that upgrade as nations progress in the real tournament

  • Greats of the Game (June 19 – June 26) — Introduces two brand-new ICONs: Rivellino and Mario Kempes, with special versions launching June 19 and Base versions entering packs June 26

  • Glory Hunters (June 26 – July 10) — A two-week PlayStyle customization promo using the new PlayStyles Lab

  • Phenoms (July 10 – July 17) — Spotlight on football’s next generation

  • Summer Stars (July 17 – July 24) — The final celebration of the biggest performers of the summer

Over 100 new international player items will also be added to the FUT pool throughout the event, giving fans across the world more options to build their dream international squads.

Gameplay Changes: Bruiser Nerf, Team Press Adjustments & More

The World’s Game Update also includes significant gameplay balancing that has been heavily requested by the community.

Bruiser PlayStyle Nerf:

  • The boost to shoulder challenges from Bruiser and Bruiser+ has been reduced

  • Players with the Enforcer or Enforcer+ PlayStyle now receive a counter-boost when on the receiving end of a shoulder challenge

  • Detection of shoulder challenges from behind has been improved to prevent unfair outcomes

Intercept PlayStyle Update:

  • Players without the Intercept PlayStyle but with a 90+ Interceptions attribute now have access to the same animations as those who hold the PlayStyle

Team Press Adjustments:

  • AI-controlled defenders will no longer aggressively double up on the ball carrier when Team Press is active in the defensive half

  • Marking tightness from all AI opponents has been reduced when Team Press is used in the defensive half, becoming progressively looser as the opponent approaches goal

  • These changes apply in the defensive half only — Team Press behaviour in the attacking half remains unchanged

Clubs Mode Gets Major Upgrades

Clubs players are also getting meaningful improvements:

  • Archetype level cap increased from 90 to 95

  • Customizable PlayStyle slots increased from 8 to 9, unlocked at level 95

  • Signature PlayStyles increased from 3 to 4, with the fourth slot unlockable as PS+ at level 95

  • Maximum attribute caps raised for multiple Archetypes (e.g., Shot Stopper’s Vision MAX reaches 99)

Journey of Nations: Weekly Continental Objectives

A new Journey of Nations Event Hub is coming to FUT on June 4, structured as a five-week continental challenge series with over 250 total challenges. Each week focuses on a different region:

  • North America — June 4

  • Asia + Oceania — June 12

  • Africa — June 19

  • South America — June 26

  • Europe — July 3

Each region’s objectives and rewards feature iconic players, historic nations, and emerging stars from that continent.

Penalty Shootouts Event

To mark the start of knockout football, EA is introducing a limited-time Penalty Shootouts event available from June 28, playable in both Football Ultimate Team and Kick-Off mode.
