Summary:

  • All monsters in R.E.P.O. have different behaviors and come with different levels of danger.
  • Some monsters have even specialized skills in detection, whether by sight or sound.
  • Some monsters are not meant to be fought; their behaviors alone mean that it is better to simply avoid them.

In R.E.P.O., monsters are at the heart of the experience, offering pure adrenaline challenges that make the game an intense survival affair. Various terrifying creatures are hurled at the players, each having an array of different behaviors and lethal abilities. Knowing a monster’s strengths and weaknesses is the only way to progress in that life-threatening environment and to escape it. Let’s go through all monsters you’ll find in R.E.P.O., including tips on how to turn fear into victory.

Common and Low-Threat Monsters

  • Animal

Players must break the line of sight by using cover and jumping onto furniture to avoid their unpredictable movement. You may kill the Animal with any weapon in the game. And when the Apex Predator ability is activated, the Animal will die almost instantaneously.

  • Banger

When it comes to handling Bangers, the best strategy is to pick them up quickly and throw them away from yourself and your allies as far as possible. Avoiding close encounters and masterly managing Bangers’ explosions will increase your chances of survival from one attack.

  • Chef

The surefire way of surviving Chef is by being aware of its characteristic pause before the jump and sidestepping instead of rolling backward to evade a random leap. If Chef happens to miss, it ragdolls for some seconds; this is the best time for counterattacks or to escape.

  • Gnome

One of the best methods of handling them is throwing them over walls or floors, which will instantly kill them. They can also be thrown at the other Gnomes to deal collateral damage as well.

  • Rugrat

Should the Rugrat lay its hands upon your cart, it would start smashing loot, one after the other, without mercy. Rugrat can be defeated using any weapon. Strength upgrades may allow the player to bring the Rugrat to the ground and take it on single-handedly.

  • Spewer

A player should primarily attempt to melee the player before the player attaches. After the attachment, it cannot be removed from the player until it detaches on its own. And if you happen to be so lucky to catch it early then you can roll dodge to shake it off.

Medium Threat Monsters

  • Bowtie

While the Bowtie looks fierce and does massive damage, one downside is that the Bowtie is quite weak and can be killed by most weapons. The best thing to do is to get away by staying out of range and not getting pinned against things.

  • Huntsman

The Huntsman kills players cleanly with one shot, a nasty move for a nasty fellow. But having no sight whatsoever, he hears players perfectly well. Players have to crouch-walk and mute their microphones because any tiny sound can make the Huntsman press the trigger. In throwing items away from where they are standing, players can lure the Huntsman out but should hardly ever run, as doing so will bring him straight upon them.

  • Mentalist

The Mentalist teleports and is really unpredictable, which makes it quite tough to evade. It makes it easier for players to use grenades and melee attacks as the Mentalist has a low health pool. Strength upgrades are required at least level 4 in order to grab and throw the Mentalist, which can also be an effective way to neutralize it.

  • Upscream

The strategy against Upscream is using light throwable objects to stagger it and let it ragdoll while being vulnerable to hacking into its health. As far as solo sessions go, the best tactic is hiding in a corner or running away. Meanwhile, cooperation and timely backing up really bring about speed for eliminating the threat in team play.

High Threat Monsters

  • Clown

Once the Clown identifies a player, it will unleash a broad horizontal laser beam from an appendage on its head. The laser could either hit high or low, so the players must pay close attention to where it’s charging. The player can either jump or duck to avoid it and successfully evade the laser

  • Headman

The Headman is one fast creature, but its vision is very poor. Thus, crouching and remaining hidden is a sure way of getting past it unseen. If it were to attack, players should take cover and attempt to break the line of sight immediately, because engaging in direct combat is incredibly risky.

  • Reaper

Surviving such encounters with this monster requires one thing: patience and stealth. Avoid direct confrontation with the Reaper by all means: if armed with ranged weapons, use them. Better yet, break the line of sight and hide until it moves on. It would be very dangerous to try blocking or countering while it is swinging.

  • Robe

If you look at the Robe within a certain range, it will scream out and charge at you that inflicts damage of 100 if standing or 50 if crouching. The players are supposed to walk away while looking away from the entity. Then, take cover by crouching while taking advantage of its limited vision and slow movement.

  • Trudge

In REPO, the Trudge rules the monster hierarchy due to its massive health pool of 500 HP. Killing it through normal means is nearly impossible. Deadly nevertheless, Trudge has limited intelligence and narrow vision. This allows players to sneak past Trudge by crouching and hiding or breaking line of sight. The best way to deal with a Trudge is to avoid direct confrontation and let it pass.

Special and Unique Monsters

  • Apex Predator

It is more of a minor annoyance than an outright deadlier threat compared to the majority of other monsters. Its stubborn character, however, makes it unique among potentially dangerous beings. For survival against the Apex Predator, the best strategy is to completely avoid contact. Actually, refrain from clicking or attacking so that it won’t transform and attack one.

  • Hidden

The Hidden is not one of those monsters that deal damage directly to a player. Instead, it grabs them and speeds away, force-dropping their items, or taking them to several other random dangerous places. You can hear the heavy breathing of the Hidden and see faint visual cues: smoke and footprints. The best way to counter an encounter with the Hidden is to stay alert to any sounds and signs above and get away as best you can.

  • Peeper

The Peeper is an eye housed on ceilings, closed and nearly invisible until an enterprising player wanders into its vicinity. Upon detecting a player, it opens its eye to make them zoom toward itself, thus preventing them from looking away. Players can break free from the stare by moving to the side of an obstacle or hide from its gaze using corners or doors.

  • Shadow Child

Despite its fearsome and frightful demeanor, it is among the lighter entities to escape from. The trick to surviving is to avoid looking too long into the eyes of the Shadow Child. Look for four or five seconds max; the next moment, it draws you in and gives you 30 damage. Just stand still and wait for it to teleport because it often loses interest if ignored.
