ALL Major Deaths in Poppy Playtime (Chapter 1-4) Explained

You’d never wish for playtime to be over more than you would in Poppy Playtime. This horror game reminiscent of Five Nights at Freddy’s is the latest craze that infuses child-like enjoyment with creepiness.
Of course, what’s a horror game without some tragic deaths? Happening in an abandoned toy facility, The Player is bound to witness all major deaths in Poppy Playtime. We’re about to explain how these deaths came about.
Quick List: All Major Deaths in Poppy Playtime from Chapter 1-4
If you don’t mind spoilers, hop along as we recount all the deaths we have witnessed in all available Poppy Playtime chapters. Or, maybe you just want to review which characters have already died before Chapter 5 comes out to continue the horror adventure. Either way, here’s the list of all the major deaths in order:
- Huggy Wuggy
- Mommy Long Legs
- Miss Delight
- Dog Day
- CatNap
- Yarnaby
- The Doctor
- Doey
Chapter 1: Huggy Wuggy
In Chapter 1, The Player first meets Huggy Wuggy as a giant statue that looks “just like the real thing”, only that it isn’t moving. Then, the statue mysteriously disappears from the main lobby after The Player fixes the electrical power problem in the facility. Toward the end of the chapter, The Player finally meets Huggy Wuggy again, and is chased down through narrow ventilation channels.
The chase ends with Huggy Wuggy falling down to the depths of the factory, then presumed dead. It happened because of The Player reaching the end of the ventilation channels and toppling a huge crate placed on a metal bar above them. Thus, Huggy Wuggy fell to his death and the chapter ends.
Chapter 2: Mommy Long Legs
The second major death The Player encounters is that of Mommy Long Legs. She prevents The Player and Poppy from escaping by taking Poppy away with extreme speed. Thus, The Player is left to confront her alone and go through the three tests she prepared. However, The Player realizes that Mommy Long Legs had rigged the game to make sure that they will fail no matter what. The Player cheats to win, enraging Mommy Long Legs.
Mommy Long Legs pursues The Player, but ultimately gets outsmarted. Mommy Long Legs gets stuck in a grinder that The Player immediately activates, triggering a series of pleas and angry exclamations from the monster as she dies. After her remains laid on the floor, a hand, assumed to be of The Prototype, takes them and leaves.
Chapter 3: Miss Delight, DogDay, and CatNap
The Player rode a train that brought them to Playcare in Chapter 3. Here, they witness more of all major deaths in Poppy Playtime as they get deeper in their exploration. After escaping CatNap’s first attempt to kill them, The Player eventually gets to the School where Miss Delight is. She initially tells them to leave, but when The Player presses on, she starts growing more violent. This also ends up in a chase; one that results into her demise. The Player escapes and activates a rolling gate that crushes Miss Delight’s head.
Next, The Player encounters DogDay inside a cell after they get out from the Playhouse. Surprisingly, DogDay isn’t aggressive nor hostile. He reveals that CatNap takes orders from the Prototype, and also treats the whole Playcare as his playground for murder, control, and destruction. However, it wasn’t long before Ruined Critters infest and hijack DogDay’s body, using it to chase The Player. DogDay dies shortly after, his screams heard by the player as they escape through a slide.
Soon, The Player is ambushed by CatNap in the Counselor’s Office. He sends The Player into a nightmare, chases them after they wake up, and harasses them while they’re in the safe room. The boss fight then ensues, where CatNap continues to harass players with attacks and hallucinations for several minutes. In the end, The Player manages to electrocute CatNap and set him on fire as well.
A hatch above opens, and the Prototype’s hand charges into CatNap’s open mouth. It quickly kills him before taking his body, similar to Mommy Long Legs. This is easily the scariest among all major deaths in Poppy Playtime, as CatNap is the most evil boss yet.
Chapter 4: Yarnaby, The Doctor, and Doey
First, Yarnaby stalks The Player in order to torment them, following them through the vents and into a storage room. Although The Player manages to lock him, Yarnaby shows up again later and chases them again. Eventually, Yarnaby dies when he attempts to swing after The Player over a fiery pit. He gets stuck in the hook-swing, and his fur, made of yarn, quickly catches fire. He frees himself but still falls to the fire below, burnt to his death.
The Doctor’s death is more gradual. It happens through the player destroying their organs one-by-one, as they are scattered throughout the facility. The Doctor gives the player a moral dilemma before seeing him, although both choices lead to that outcome. The Player soon sees The Doctor as a brain inside a machine. In the boss fight, The Doctor makes a last attempt to defeat The Player, but falls instead, uttering a hateful sentence upon their death.
Doey the Doughman’s death may just be the saddest one among all major deaths so far. He initially was helpful to The Player, as he also has a mission. He wants to protect the remaining uncorrupted toys in the factory, keeping them in a Safe Haven. But as all their plans fail and result in the death of everyone in the Safe Haven, Doey crashes out. He blames The Player for the explosion and chases them. The Player is ultimately forced to kill Doey, who apologizes as he dies, regretful that he couldn’t save the Safe Haven toys.
Conclusion
More than a horror game, Poppy Playtime is filled with moral dilemma’s and major characters with tragic backstories. It’s what makes it intriguing and haunting to play. Of all major deaths in Poppy Playtime, which one left its mark on you the most?
If you can’t decide yet, there’s no need to fret. There’s plenty of time to think, and more deaths to come when Chapter 5 arrives next year.
