No release date was announced, however we know that both the Wii U and 3DS version of the game will be making their way to the United States, and that the launch will likely coincide with the 2016 Olympic Games.

Each version of Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will feature version-exclusive sports, with golf being 3DS exclusive, and rugby and beach volleyball being among the Wii U exclusive games.

Slated to launch around the time of next summer’s Olympic Games, Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will be the fifth game in the series.

The most recent installment, Mario and Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, received widely negative reviews, including a 4.5/10 from IGN and a 5/10 from GameSpot.
