Ubisoft has announced today that the Assassin’s Creed movie, scheduled for release this December, also has a Virtual Reality sister (or cousin – it isn’t quite clear yet).

This will come as quite a nice bit of news for the veteran Assassin’s Creed players, who have long dreamt of a real Animus experience. While we are likely still a long way from that dream becoming a reality, this is certainly a step in the right direction.

The VR experience is said to be shot alongside the film, but it’s “not a game” according to Matthew Lewis, the president and director of VR at Practical Magic VR.

This is certainly a step up from the Jack the Ripper DLC trailer, which had a 360° VR capable video.

The movie, starring Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, and Jeremy Irons, is set to debut on December 21st in the U.S. But the pre-order package (which doesn’t include the VR experience yet) is already being sold on the Ubisoft website.

Some of the other features that come with the varying packages are: a collector’s watch, McFarlane Toys Aguilar Hidden Blade, and (for a whooping $1,200) a limited edition Spanish Crossbow prop replica of the one used in the movie.
