Xbox unveils retro-inspired console and controller to celebrate its 25th anniversary, and they're launching this November
It's Xbox's 25th birthday this year, don't you know, and Microsoft is celebrating in a multitude of ways. It's made its logo transparent, for starters, and it's decided to go all-caps. But if that's still not enough to be getting on with, the company has now revealed a special transparent green Xbox Series X and controller that'll be available to purchase this November.
Unveiled during Microsoft's bombastic Xbox Games Showcase, the console - officially titled the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition - is said to draw inspiration from the original Xbox and the "OG Green so many players remember". It's a design that supposedly "reflects where we've been and the community that's been with us along the way", according to a post on Xbox Wire, and one that "respects our history".

The iconic 'X' lights up in green, a nod to the original Xbox start up, complemented by the Xbox 25th Anniversary logo on the front and other design elements that celebrate Xbox fans and classic hardware designs."

"From the original ABXY colors, to the timeless green, every detail calls back to the beginning," the announcement goes on, "including the bumpers honouring the original black and white buttons on the original 'Duke' controller." And if that's still not enough Xbox nostalgia for you, if you flip the device over, the back case and battery door are also transparent, revealing the "classic" Xbox logo. The controller, incidentally, is being bundled in with the console, as well as being sold separately.
Microsoft hasn't revealed prices for either bits of anniversary edition hardware yet, but we do know they'll be launching this November. More details are set to be revealed "soon".
