The Pokémon Company has revealed "a commemorative expansion" for Pokémon TCG which celebrates the Pokémon series' 30th anniversary. It'll hit stores worldwide on 16th September this year, and I'll bet we're going to see fights over these boosters.

As teased in the newly released trailer, the 30th Celebration set - which is currently just for the physical card game, rather than the digital Pocket version - has a number of eye-catching additions. First, an all-new card rarity, Futuristic, is being introduced, featuring cool new visuals painted by Japanese artist YOSHIROTTEN. Two cards with the striking art style have been revealed so far, Mewtwo and Mew ex, but expect more to pop up in the coming months.

Furthermore, the entire set is foil (terrible news for your wallet if you love shiny cards), with each booster pack containing five foils and one foil basic energy. Additionally, each pack includes (as part of the five regular cards) "one of 30 unique foil cards featuring Pikachu, each illustrated by a different artist".

Finally, 30 additional "classic Pokémon cards from across the game's decades-long history" are making a return, including the famous classic Charizard by Mitsuhiro Arita. Despite the mix of old and new, veteran Pokémon fans will be especially satisfied by this set, it seems.

Sadly, many players are already fearing how hard it'll be to actually obtain boosters from this celebratory set when taking the hype and scalping issues into account. May the odds be ever in your favour. And let's hope The Pokémon Company has similar anniversary plans for the digital version of TCG, which has some synergy with its physical counterpart but receives tailor-made sets.
