They might have proven they deal in secret extra DLC for decade-old RPGs this year, but for my money, Project Hadar remains the most mysterious game CD Projekt have in the works. It's always there in their financial reports alongside The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, flaunting its sheer unknowableness. Its creators, meanwhile, have said precious little regarding what it looks like, aside from confirming that it's not one weirdly specific thing: a cosmic horror game set in feudal Japan.

That's left the curious to scour the likes of job listings for various roles on Project Hadar. Previous ones have suggested it'll be a bit action RPG-ish and have melee combat. The latest, spotted by GamesRadar, paints it as being open-world and keen on making you cry.

"In this position, together with the rest of the team, you will help push the envelope for the next, immersive game in the Hadar world, creating an emotional, open-world experience that will stay with gamers," CD Projekt's Daniel Greń wrote of the engineering director the studio are trying to get in to work on Hadar.

The use of the phrase "next, immersive game in the Hadar world" has me wondering a little bit whether this might be a case of some phrasing designed more for the Witcher or Cyberpunk sequels being copied across, since it'd feel more natural to refer to something that isn't the first entry in a series as the next game in X world. It's also worth bearing in mind that job listings aren't always necessarily the best places to glean info on games from, since they're designed to get people to apply, not fill the public in on the unannounced ins and outs of games.

Those grains of salt aside, assuming this listing's accurate, Hadar's sounding even less like a big departure from CD Projekt's established series than it was previously. The story and world will be new, but the bones sound fairly analogous. Wander around a sprawling map getting all sentimental and occasionally slapping up some baddies. You'll laugh, you'll bawl your eyes out, you'll feel totally neutral. The ends of your mouth will go up, down, all around, and occasionally flip 360 degrees.

In all seriousness, here's what CD Projekt joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski said of the game during an earnings call in September 2025. "Hadar is still basically an IP concept, so not a game development project yet," he responded top a question about it. "We’re working on the game’s story, its background – so to say; there is some prototyping going on in terms of gameplay, because it’s hard not to do that when the end goal is to make a video game – but I’m not sure what you mean by 'decisions' – I mean, as in to progress to development, or whether we’re going to make [a game] or not…? We want to make this IP happen, so that decision is sort of made in terms of – when we’re going to go into development, we will announce it in due time, I think."

Sounds like he was experiencing some emotions right then.
