New Fallout 4 quest mod starring an iconic Elder Scrolls voice actor has you solve an eccentric gang war over a long-dead starlet's vault of mysterious goodies
Since 2023, a group of well-known Fallout 4 modders have been getting together on an annual basis to team up with Elder Scolls and Fallout voice actor Wes Johnson on a chunky quest mod put together in a matter of days with the goal of rasing money for charity. Last year, their 40 hour-long charity modathon resulted in an alien-centric adventure dubbed Transmission Zeta. This year, they've plopped your character right in the middle of a war between two performers' gangs over who gets to unearth a pre-war singer's archived belongings.
The mod's called Double Feature, and tasks you with heading to Boston's civic archive. Here, standing behind glass on two sides of a room, lurk a raider gang leader called Sterling and a rival gang boss called Lorraine. Both are eccentric even by wasteland standards, narrating for themselves as they talk. Your job's to choose which of them - the bloke bedecked in Vault Boy power armour voiced by the same guy who plays Sheogorath in The Elder Scrolls or his equally quirky opposite number - you want to help open up a sealed wing of the archive where the belongings of pre-war songstress Dottie Day are stashed.
The quest and dungeon have been put together by modders from ambitious Fallout 4 projects like Sim Settlements 2, the Commonwealth Story Expansion Project and Concord Stories. Along the way, you meet a new companion named Billy Thunder and get the keys to a player home mode by modder Elianora, as well as new weapons/armour made by modders Neeher, Niero and Captain-Ultima. The full list of modders and actors involved can be found in the mod's description.
If you want an idea of what the quest has in store before you download or simply aren't in the mood to reinstall Fallout 4, YouTuber Gopher livestreamed a playthrough of it as part of the charity modathon. Going off the Tiltify page Sim Settlements 2 lead Kinggath has linked, this year's modathon has raised $5,065 for the US-based Alzheimer's Association as of writing.
If you fancy giving Double Feature a go, you'll need to make sure your copy of Fallout 4 is updated to version 1.10.163.0 or greater. Once in the game, head to the Cambridge area near the C.I.T. ruins and near a raider camp you'll find a damaged Protectron calling out for help. Approaching the bot and talking to it should trigger the quest to kick off.
While it might not be up your alley if you prefer your post-apocalypses on the dour and gritty side, the mod certainly looks like a good bit of fun and the folks involved all have strong track records for quality modding.
