Crewmate Introduction:
Among Us Crewmate Guide
Playing as a Crewmate in Among Us is an experience that combines tension, strategy, and teamwork. As a Crewmate, your primary goal is to complete all of your assigned tasks before the Impostors can eliminate the entire crew or before the group successfully identifies and ejects all of the Impostors. Tasks vary widely, from simple ones like fixing wires and refueling engines, to more complex tasks like downloading data or calibrating the distributor.
Completing these tasks is crucial, but it’s equally important to remain alert and observant of your surroundings. Impostors may try to sabotage your efforts by faking tasks, causing chaos, or even eliminating you. While performing tasks, be cautious of your environment, as being in the wrong place at the wrong time can make you a target.
If a Crewmate is killed by an Impostor or ejected from the game, they become a ghost. As a ghost, you are still able to complete tasks, helping the remaining Crewmates progress toward victory, but you lose the ability to participate in meetings or help resolve sabotage situations. Ghosts have the ability to move freely through walls, providing them with a unique vantage point and a chance to observe the ongoing game from a different perspective. Ghosts can communicate with one another, but their messages are only visible to other ghosts, which creates a silent network of information exchange among eliminated players.
Whether you are alive or a ghost, your main responsibility is to support your team. Completing tasks efficiently or helping identify the Impostors through careful observation is key to achieving victory. The tension rises as the game progresses, and every decision you make could be the difference between victory or defeat. Be strategic, communicate effectively with your fellow Crewmates, and always keep your eyes peeled for any suspicious behavior that could point to the Impostors in your midst.
Completing Your Tasks Efficiently
The core of a Crewmate’s role in Among Us revolves around completing tasks, and staying organized and focused is essential to success. At the start of each game, it’s important to take a moment to review your task list, get familiar with the locations where these tasks are, and plan your route accordingly. Some of the tasks you’ll encounter have visual elements, such as animations or effects that trigger when the task is completed.
If visual tasks are enabled in the game settings, performing these tasks in front of other Crewmates can serve as a “hard clear.” This means that, through the visual confirmation, you are definitively proven innocent and cannot be the Impostor for the remainder of the round. These tasks should be prioritized when possible because they provide a solid indication of your innocence, and if you see another Crewmate completing a visual task, it’s a clear sign that they are not the Impostor either. It’s important to remember that Impostors cannot fake visual tasks, so if you witness someone performing such a task, you can trust them to be genuine.
Another tool that can aid you in identifying Impostors is the task bar, which tracks progress on the group’s collective task completion. If the task bar is set to “always update” in the game settings, you can monitor it to help track the team’s progress. If someone is pretending to complete a task, but you notice the task bar doesn’t move after they’ve finished, it’s a strong indicator that they are likely an Impostor. However, be aware that some tasks have multiple stages, and the task bar won’t update until all stages are completed.
This can occasionally cause confusion, so it’s important to be mindful of how certain tasks work. Common tasks, which are the same for all Crewmates in a particular round, can also assist in identifying Impostors. If someone is attempting to fake a common task that isn’t actually part of the task list for this round, it can help expose them as an Impostor.
Additionally, when you are near someone performing a non-visual task, you can use this as an opportunity to appear as though you are also completing tasks. By standing near them and mimicking their actions, you can create the illusion of contributing to the team’s progress. However, it’s important to be aware of the dynamics in the game, as standing near someone who may be faking tasks can also put you under suspicion. Your goal is to complete your tasks efficiently, while observing others and helping identify any potential threats. The more vigilant and strategic you are, the better chance you have of winning the game.
Identifying the Impostors
Observing other players is essential for identifying Impostors. Pay close attention to their behavior and movement. Impostors often wander aimlessly, especially in areas without tasks, or may hesitate near vents, which can indicate they are planning to vent away. Be cautious of players who enter and exit rooms without seeming to complete any tasks.
Additionally, note who is alone with a victim just before a body is discovered, as this could point to the Impostor responsible. Some maps offer visual tools to help track player activity. Security cameras provide live feeds of different areas, and a red light indicates when someone is watching them. Impostors should avoid killing or venting near cameras when they are active, as this could reveal their actions.
The Admin map shows the location of players in different rooms, though it does not track hallways. It is useful for monitoring player movement and spotting inconsistencies in alibis. On MIRA HQ, doorlogs track who passes through sensor points, offering another way to gather information. However, be cautious when using these tools, as Impostors might try to eliminate players who are monitoring them.
A Comms sabotage disables these visual tools, so be mindful of any sabotage occurring. Pay attention to sabotages in general, as Impostors use them to create confusion and separate Crewmates for easier kills. While it’s important to fix sabotages quickly, observe who is heading toward or attempting to fix them, as Impostors might pretend to do so to appear innocent. Be particularly suspicious after a sabotage occurs and a body is discovered shortly after. The Lights sabotage is especially useful for Impostors, as it significantly reduces Crewmate vision and provides cover for kills.
Other sabotages, like Reactor or O2, often force Crewmates to split up, making them vulnerable. If you discover a dead body, use the report ability immediately. Reporting a body brings everyone into an emergency meeting to discuss what happened. Share any details you have, such as the location of the body, who was nearby, or any suspicious behavior you observed. Remember, bodies will remain on the map until reported. If you see someone self-reporting (reporting a body immediately after you suspect they made the kill), be extra cautious, as it’s a common tactic for Impostors to deflect suspicion.
What to Do When a Body is Found
Meetings are a crucial part of the game, where much of the decision-making takes place. Be ready to share your observations and listen attentively to what others are saying. If you are questioned, provide a clear and truthful account of your movements and who you were with. If you can vouch for someone else’s location, creating an alibi, do so, but ensure that your information is accurate.
Alibis are powerful tools for clearing innocent Crewmates, as multiple people confirming each other’s whereabouts can rule them out as suspects. Be cautious of players who are quick to accuse others without solid evidence or those who frequently change their stories, as these can be signs of deceit. When it comes time to vote, carefully consider the information that has been shared.
If there is clear evidence pointing to someone, vote for them, but if there’s no strong consensus, it may be best to skip the vote to avoid ejecting an innocent player. Voting with the majority can prevent ties and avoid confusion, especially if voting is anonymous. However, avoid jumping to conclusions too quickly, as this can make you appear suspicious to others. Understanding common Impostor strategies can help you anticipate their moves. One tactic to watch for is the “stack kill,” where an Impostor kills a player in a crowd, making it difficult to determine who the killer is. This often happens during sabotages or near common tasks where multiple players gather.
Impostors may also try to gain the trust of certain Crewmates to use them as alibis later, or they might attempt to frame innocent players to make them seem suspicious. Be wary of door sabotages, which can trap you in a room with an Impostor. If the doors are sabotaged, pay attention to who you are near, as Impostors often use these opportunities to eliminate others.
They also tend to use vents to move around the map quickly. While you can’t see them venting unless you’re very close and hear the sound, be cautious of players suddenly appearing in areas they shouldn’t be able to reach quickly. By completing your tasks effectively, staying observant, communicating clearly during meetings, and being aware of Impostor tactics, you can significantly increase the chances of the Crewmates winning. Remember to collaborate and share information with your team to identify and eject the Impostors before it’s too late!
