Though you get a speeder as soon as you crash land on Toshada, it’s a little unwieldy and lacking the oomph you’d expect. Fortunately, you can add a bit of power to the vehicle fairly early on by installing the Speed Boost upgrade, though there are quite a few steps involved.

We’ll walk you through how to get the speeder boost. If you’re still navigating the early game in Morigana, check out how to get into Gorak’s suite and how to infiltrate Gorak’s base.

How to start The Speeder Expert Intel quest

After arriving in Mirogana city, press on with the main story until you’re sent to Jaunta’s Hope to meet Danka as part of the New Tricks quest. Once you complete the quest at the Daruda Diner in Jaunta’s Hope, you’ll get a notification for the Boosting the Speeder Intel. Talk to the bartender at the diner to kick start The Speeder Mechanic expert quest, which will lead you to the Speed Boost module.

Selo’s People and Selo’s Shop

Your first task is to reach the windfishing settlement of Kadua Village as part of the Selo’s People sub-quest. You’ll find the village in the northwest of Toshara in the Mirogana Valley region, north of the Pyke Syndicate Workshop, as marked on the map above.

Speak to the merchant there who will share the whereabouts of Selo Rovak – cliffside near Jaunta’s Hope – unlocking the Selo’s Shop Intel. Fast travel back to Jaunta’s Hope, then head to the marker on your map, which is located up on the cliffs northeast of Jaunta’s Hope.

Follow the path up to the top. There, you’ll find a small camp. Selo is on the left near the decking next to the caravan. She’ll task you with retrieving an atmospheric accelerator from a nearby Imperial wind harvester, starting The Mechanic expert quest. With the part, Selo will be able to upgrade your speeder.

The Mechanic quest

Head to the marker on the map located in the very west of Toshara in the Boulder Forest region. Once there, use the Magnetic Disruptor Selo gave you on the circuit panel on the left of the turbine to stop the fan spinning. Make your way into the facility. It’s worth riding the speeder to save time until you reach a turbine blocking the path. Turns out the Mag Disruptors don’t last all that long.

Take the path on the right until you enter a chamber with two huge turbines preventing you from walking on the walkway above. Go under the bridge then instruct Nix to power off the red shield. Climb into the vent on the right and follow it through. Take a left, hop onto the platform ahead, then dash across the walkway when the turbines stop spinning. A yellow light signals that the turbine is powering up so use this to time you run.

Past the turbines, jump down to another set of turbines, but with grated covers you can climb to reach the platform below. Use your blaster to destroy the unit powering them below, then climb across. Turn right, then climb up using the yellow markers on the holds to make your way left. There’s another turbine that will spin periodically. Wait for it to die down then climb down to the platform below.

Drop down into the hole in the pipe, then continue and drop down into another hole, then go left through the gap to come out into a massive chamber. Turn right, then wait for the walls to retract and make your way forward. Climb up the grating ahead then onto the turbine on the left (again wait for it to stop spinning) and up to reach a platform. Look left, shoot the two units powering the large turbine, then grapple across and jump onto another platform.

Use the handholds to the left of the empty turbine hole to climb left and then up. Again, a couple of the turbines spin so keep that in mind when ascending. At the top, wait for the walls to move, then dash across and climb up the grating ahead. Wait for the walls to jut out, then quickly jump across them to reach the platform on the other side. Note that the top portion comes out as well shortly after so don’t linger.

Jump up to the handhold ahead, then climb across the turbines to go right, then up into a vent. Take a right at the fork, and drop down into the control room. Interact with the console to get the atmospheric accelerator and shut down the facility.

Unlocking Speed Boost

Exit through the door, then grapple across the two gaps to reach the turbine tunnel. Rather conveniently, your speeder will be waiting. Jump on and ride out of the wind facility. Make your way back to Selo on the cliffside near Jaunta’s Hope and hand over the accelerator. In exchange, she’ll get to work on your speeder, unlocking the Speed Boost ability along with The Mechanic in the Abilities menu.

How to use Speed Boost

To use Speed Boost while riding your speeder, tap the square button on PS5 or Shift on PC. The use of the boost is dictated by an orange metre on the HUD in the bottom right of the screen. It replenishes over time so you can’t chain or spam boosts in quick succession. Speed Boost is not only fantastic for getting to destinations quicker but also allows you to clear huge gaps by launching off ramps at higher speeds, useful for ticking off the 60 metre jump for the Speeder Jump ability.
