✓ At A Glance- Build an Isolated Securement Unit in your Territory base
- Deposit the Festering Gel in the unit to secure it
At the tail end of the Welcome Back quest and after felling the Ravenous Hunter in the Monolith of Greed, you’re tasked with securing the Festering Gel. It’s a rather opaque objective and Once Human doesn’t exactly give you all that much to go on.
Put simply, the Festering Gel is a Deviant (one of the little critters you can put to work in your Territory) and you need to give it a home in your base. We’ll walk you through how to secure the Festering Gel. For more early game help, check out our tips and tricks.
Build an Isolated Securement Unit to house the Festering Gel. Captured by VideoGamerSecuring the Festering Gel
To secure the Festering Gel, you’ll need to put the Deviant in an Isolated Securement Unit. This is the glass box unit designed to house Deviants. You’ll have built one by this point for the Butterfly’s Emissary you received when first loading into the open world after the tutorial.
You can either use that existing one or craft a new one. Open up the Build Menu by tapping B, then right click, navigate to the Facilities tab then to Function Facility, and select the Isolated Securement Unit from the options. To build one, you’ll need the following resources and materials:
- x20 Metal Scraps (obtained from disassembling scrap at a Disassembly Bench)
- x15 Copper Ingots (crafted at a Furnace using Copper Ore and Charcoal)
- x10 Glass (crafted at a Furnace using Gravel and Charcoal)
Place down the unit in your base. Approach the unit and tap F. Hover over the Festering Gel in the list of Deviants that pops up and right click to deposit it in the Isolated Securement Unit. If you’re using the existing unit, approach it, tap F, and then U to withdraw the Butterfly. Then deposit the Festering Gel as above.
The Festering Gel is decent defensive Deviant. Captured by VideoGamerDoing so will secure the Festering Gel and tick off the objective, allowing you to progress the Welcome back quest. From there, you can equip the Festering Gel and deploy it in combat, knocking back enemies and creating a fortification barrier, protecting your meta-human and recovering 6% HP and 3% Sanity. This also applies to friends near the Deviant.
