Contents hide How to parry in Lords of the Fallen Parry if you feel confident How to block in Lords of the Fallen Shields and blockingWant to know how to block and parry in Lords of the Fallen? With any stamina-based melee game, combat tends to follow a rhythm of attacking and defending, which is why using a shield for your defensive and parrying purposes will help you in combat.
Playing defensive is always a great option in soulslike games, and this is mostly true for Lords of the Fallen. The incentive to parry isn’t as high as you might expect, thanks to how the stagger gauge works, and blocking isn’t as helpful as dodging in most cases.
Even so, it is important to know how to do both and more important to do what suits your playstyle and lets you have the most fun. How to parry in Lords of the Fallen
To parry an attack, press the L1 button or LB on your controller right before an attack is going to hit you. A successful parry will deal significant stagger damage to an enemy, leaving them open to a grievous strike, but a parry won’t fully deplete the bar.
Parrying in Lords of the Fallen is high risk with medium reward, but it is good if you want to deal stagger damage to an enemy and reduce the stagger gauge quickly. When parrying an attack, you will have a small window of opportunity to register a successful parry, which means timing is everything.
✓ Jack’s opinionParry if you feel confident
Lords of the Fallen doesn’t use the same parry/reposte system from games such as Dark Souls. As such, it isn’t a way to instantly deliver a critical strike to enemies and is instead a method of reducing the stagger gauge in a hurry. Bear this in mind, because a simple charged attack could do the same as a parry.
How to block in Lords of the Fallen
If you want to block, simply hold down L1/LB to raise your shield or weapon and prepare to block an attack. While parrying is done by tapping the L1 button before an attack hits, you can raise your guard to block by holding the button instead.
Any blocked attack will drain your stamina, and if you block an attack that depletes your stamina you will become guard broken. This, obviously, means you are vulnerable to an attack since you will be temporarily stunned.
It’s all about balance, which means blocking shouldn’t be used permanently and you should decide based on your current stamina if you should block an attack or dodge out of the way instead. What’s more, blocking an attack also results in your taking a small bit of chip damage from the enemy, meaning if your HP is low enough when you block you could still be killed.
✓ pro tipShields and blocking
The best damage blocking shield we’ve found so far is a heavy shield that blocks 66% of physical damage. All shield also have different blocking percentage stats for different kinds of damage, and some are better at blocking magic than others. Make sure you pay attention to these stats when choosing your gear.
