At this point, and if you pushed through the Opus Magnum side quest, you’ll have the opportunity to track down the book for the miller.
Trosky Castle is large and has a confusing layout, which can make finding the tome a little tricky. In this guide, we’ll walk you through where to find the book for the miller in the Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Opus Magnum side quest.

To kick things off, go to the Crowe Tower and climb the successive flight of stairs up to the Scribe Erazim’s room. It’s marked on the map with the letter L so it shouldn’t be too hard to find. Talk to the Scribe and select the ‘I’d like to borrow a book’ dialogue option. Then choose ‘There are some interesting ideas in it’. It turns out Nikvard Libak took a liking to the book and borrowed it, but has yet to return it. All Erazim knows about the book is that the author is B.B.
Agree to track down Nikvard for the scribe to get the book back. The Scribe will then explain that he thinks Nikvard has lost the book and three people may be able to help: Bertha the cook, Regina the maid, and Hersh the hand.

Next, go around the castle and talk to Bertha, Regina, and Hersh. Though their locations are shown on the map as objective markers, here’s where you’ll find each of them:
- Cook Bertha – Crone tower kitchen
- Maid Regina – Maiden’s palace
- Hersh – transport yard

Accept to read the letter for her. Nikvard has apparently taken a liking to the maid. Say ‘I understand’ and she’ll mention she last saw him in the Knight’s Hall.
Lastly, head halfway down the hill to the barn to find Hersh. Libak entrusted the hired hand with a task. Hersh wants you to prove you’re not a spy. He wants a sword – a long and very good one, at that. You can either find a sword, pay him for the information, or try to talk him into sharing the details. Talking him into won’t work though and he’ll ask for 5000 groschen. A longsword it is, then.

Previous Next 1 of 6 Previous NextHopefully, you have a longsword in your inventory or chest you can hand over. Otherwise, you can craft one at the forge, or steal one from the armory. If you go for forging, you can buy the Sketch – Common Longsword document from the blacksmith Osina in Castle Trosky for 315 groschen. As for stealing one, there’s a Common Longsword on a crate in the armory, which is just next to the kitchen in the Maiden tower.
Whichever method you go for, head back to Hersh and hand over the weapon. Hersh explains that Nikvard asked him to get something outside of the castle for him, but the lord clutched his belly and ran off.

Piecing all this information together, we can deduce that Nikvard likely lost the books while on the toilet. Head back to Scribe Erazim and explain you have an idea about what happened to Nikvard. Choose ‘The book fell into the privy’ dialogue option. Erazim will suggest you search the rocks around the castle for Nikvard and the book.

Previous Next 1 of 3 Previous NextHead to the marker on the map to the east on the rocks just outside of the castle to find Nikvard. He’s unfortunately passed. You’ll find the Lightbringer’s Secret book around the corner in a pile of excrement. You can now bring it to the Miller at the Lower Semine Mill and make a big move towards wrapping up the Opus Magnum side quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
