With features like detailed character creation and city-editing modes, it’s a treat for fans of the genre. For Steam Deck owners, the good news is that inZOI is playable on the handheld, but some tweaks will be necessary to enable a smoother experience. Here’s everything you need to know to get inZOI running on your Steam Deck, as well as the best settings for graphics and controller.

Can you play inZOI on Steam Deck?

Yes, you can play inZOI on your Steam Deck, but it requires some adjustments due to the demand that the game’s realistic graphics put upon the device. While you can easily purchase and install inZOI from the Steam Store, the default settings aren’t really optimized for Steam Deck. Right out of the gates, you might encounter resolution issues that prevent you from progressing past the main menu. To solve this, you need to modify the game’s code files and adjust a few other settings. Before we begin, make sure to launch the game at least once before making these changes.

Settings to run inZOI on Steam Deck

Remember that you can connect a PC mouse to make it easier to navigate Steam Deck’s Desktop mode. With that, follow these steps to adjust the settings and get InZOI running on your Steam Deck:

  1. Press the STEAM button on your Steam Deck, scroll down to Power and select Switch to Desktop.
  2. Open the File Manager and navigate to the Home directory. Switch to the third view mode to list the folders. Then, click the three lines on the right side and select Show Hidden Files from the drop-down menu.
  3. Open the following folder path: ./steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata
  4. Sort the files by clicking Modified twice.
  5. Then, open the following folder: 2456740/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser
  6. Press Name to sort them.
  7. Next, open: AppData/Local/BlueClient/Saved/Config/Windows
  8. Find and open the file called GameUserSettings.ini.
  9. In the GameUserSettings.ini file, locate the line fullscreenmode=0.
  10. Open the on-screen keyboard, delete the “0”, and replace it with a “1” to enable fullscreen mode: fullscreenmode=1.
  11. Save the changes to GameUserSettings.ini.
  12. After that, return to Gaming Mode and find inZOI in your library, click the gear icon and select Properties.
  13. In the Compatibility tab, check the box labeled Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool. This will open a drop-down menu.
  14. Select Proton Hotfix or GE-Proton9-26 if you have it installed.
  15. Finally, press Play to launch the game.

Do not change the display mode to fullscreen, as it will cause the resolution issue to return. If this happens, you will need to go back to the game files and change the setting back from fullscreenmode=0 to fullscreenmode=1.

Best controller settings for inZOI on Steam Deck

After fixing the graphics settings, it’s time to adjust the controller settings to finally be able to enjoy inZOI on your Steam Deck. Follow these steps to set up your controller:

  1. Press the STEAM button and go right to go to the game menu.
  2. Select Controller Settings to view the layout options.
  3. Scroll down to the Templates section and select Keyboard (WAS) and Mouse and press X to confirm.
  4. After that, enable the Back Grip Buttons option and change the Numpad Tab keys to: L4: Home; L5: End; R4: Page Up; R5: Page Down.
