Is Tyr dead in God of War Ragnarok? A mighty fine question, and one we’ll preface by saying that the answer and everything that follows includes major story spoilers. If you haven’t yet, we highly recommend completing the main story and wrapping up any favors before reading on. With the spoiler warning out of the way, let’s dive in.
Is Tyr dead in God of War Ragnarok?
The short answer to the question is, no, Tyr is not dead. During the main story mission, Odin’s deception unravels, revealing that the All-Father has been impersonating Tyr ever since Kratos and Atreus freed him from his jail cell in The Applecore during the early-game The Quest for Tyr mission. This, understandably, leads us to believe that Tyr is dead or at least question his whereabouts.
In reality, he’s alive, and you can even find him. To do so, complete the main story mission. As Asgard is destroyed, parts of it are scattered across the realm. You encounter these as Remnants of Asgard, but there’s also a hidden region in Niflheim, a whole area consisting of a much larger chunk of the destroyed realm.

Walk forward toward the tree to trigger a piece of dialogue that initiates The Broken Prison favor. Head left down a new path to the left of the one leading to the Tree of Woe. Follow the path and grapple down an ice wall to reach the Aesir Prison Wreckage area.
