In this guide, we’ll walk you through all the steps to complete the Forging Destiny main path chapter in God of War Ragnarok. Kratos, Mimir, and Brok are off to Svartalfheim to forge a new weapon to take on Heimdall.

As a part of the main path, Forging Destiny features some major story developments. We’ve tried to keep spoilers to a minimum to conserve the experience, but there are a few in there for the purpose of keeping you going in the right direction. To help you make the most of your time, we’ve also included all the Nornir chests, Legendary chests, ravens, and more, you can tick off along the way.

Find a Path to the Surface

Brok will take you to the Myrkr Tunnels in Svartalfheim. Blow up the red barrel at the end of the corridor to make a whole in the iron gate and crawl through. Push forward taking out enemies as you go then ignite the oil on the floor to clear the gate ahead. 

Push the cart out of the way and go left to find a Legendary chest behind some vines. Hit the large barrel on the left to release oil, then ignite it with the Blades and loot the chest for the Fog of Fimbulwinter heavy runic attack.

To clear the gates ahead, pull on the chain then sigil and axe the gear above. Release the chain, recall the axe, and throw it at the Twilight Stone so that it hits the fixture.

Go through and fight the grim. To open the left gate, axe the water channel on the left. Aim the axe just above the water wheel.

Go through the gate and crawl through to a room with a Nornir chest. The first rune is on the left as you enter the room. The second is down the left-hand corridor – axe the large barrel to release oil then chain sigils and use the Blades to ignite the brazier. To find the third rune, face the chest and turn around, walk down the corridor and look for a stack of barrels in a small alcove – the rune is behind the barrels. Loot the chest for Horn of Blood Mead.

Go up the stairs and kick down the shield straight ahead to unlock a shortcut back to the waterwheel room. Backtrack and go down the corridor on the right. Take out the grims and nightmares, then climb up the chain to the left of the entrance. Turn the lever to rereroute the water. Return to the ledge above the waterwheel room where you unlocked the shortcut. Shoot a sigil then throw the axe at the channel in the top left, recall the axe and throw it at the channel just above the left-hand wheel. This opens the other gate.

Go through and defeat the two grims. Straight ahead is a Yggdrasil Rift. Raise the gate and climb up to reach The Forge.

Head to the Forge with Brok

Take the left-hand path to The Forge gates, taking out enemies as you go. Open the gates and head up past the village to the cable lift.

Destroy the Nightmare Haunt to Release the Lift

Take the path to the right of the lift. Clear the vines from the lift with the Blades, then grapple up to the ledge on the right. Freeze the geyser to hop across. Follow the path round to another geyser. Freeze it to raise the lift.

Board the lift and signal to Brok. Once at the top take a sharp right and grapple up the ledge. Signal to Brok, then throw your axe at the other geyser through the scaffolding. This will open the gate.

Head through and loot the Legendary chest for the Atas Eruption heavy runic attack. Follow the path and destroy the Nightmare Haunt on the lift.

Ride the Lift up to the Forge

Head down to the lift.. Captured by VideoGamer

Return to the lift and ride it up. Dismount, fight off the grims, and squeeze through the gap in the cave ahead. Descend to the large lift below. Shoot one of Odin’s Ravens sitting on a cliff to the left. Interact with the lift, which is unfortunately broken.

Repair the Switch

Axe the blue rock and return to Brok. Fetch some bronze rock and go back to Brok.

Forge the Weapon

Return to the lift. Turn the crank to plunge underwater to meet The Lady and grab the Draupnir Spear.

Find a Path Down the Mountain

Throw and detonate the spear at the weak point in the cliff face and climb up.

Push forward and destroy the Nightmare Haunts using the spear. Look for the weak point in the large rock at the center of the area and throw-detonate the spear to clear a path. You can also hit the weak point on the right to access the red coffin.

Squeeze through the gap and take out the grims and nightmares. Throw the spear into what looks like a gushing golden draft of air on the rock – this is a new ability and creates a bar Kratos will use to climb upwards. Climb up, then plant another spear to get across another gap and to a Yggdrasil Rift.

Interacting with it will capture a Lindwyrm for the The Lost Lindwyrms Favor. Backtrack across the gap and look right to find another weak point. Spear it to clear the ledge below.

Shimmy across the take on the enemies there. Defeating them gives you the Huldra Charge light runic attack for the spear and a Jewel of Yggdrasil amulet fragment. Head down the mountain via the rope to the right of Brok’s shop.
