Mentorship in FM24 is largely used to spread certain personality traits between players, usually from your older and more senior players to your youth players and is key to youth development. Different personality types can have an impact on how a player develops. For example, a player with higher professionalism will have more drive and ambition to achieve their goals, while an Unambitious player won’t have that same drive.
Mentoring is a way of changing those negative personality types into positive ones, to make sure that your players will achieve their potential. Here is how to mentor players in FM24.

To set up mentoring, you first need to head to the Training tab on the left-hand menu, and then click the Mentoring tab at the top of the screen. This brings up the Mentoring menu. From here, create a group, naming it whatever you want, and you can start adding players.
First, identify senior players with a good personality trait, like Model Citizen, Professional, or Driven. Add one of these players to your mentoring group. Secondly, choose two or three younger players that you want to be mentored and add them to the group too. Try and keep groups sorted between positions – i.e. if your mentor is a defender, make your mentees defenders too, so that they can receive tutoring in their position.
If you don’t want to set this all up on your own, simply click the ‘Ask Assistant to Assign’ button in the top right corner of the screen. This will have your assistant manager assign multiple groups at once, all based on the previous criteria. From here, you can move players around if you want, or simply leave them as they are.

There are multiple good personality traits, but the absolute best of them all is the Model Citizen trait. This has the highest stats in all of the mental attributes, and any young talent with this player trait will develop the best they possibly can. Aside from that, positive traits such as Professional, Resolute, Driven, Ambitious, and Perfectionist are all great traits to have, and will improve player development and morale.
Conversely, avoid any negative traits. These are often the opposite of the positive traits, such as Casual, Low Determination, and Unambitious. Players with traits like these are unlikely to put as much effort into their training, and will not develop as well as players with positive traits.
You can customise your scouting centre to let you search for players by personality. Click on ‘Overview’ just above the list of players, and then ‘Customise Current View’. Next, scroll down on the left-hand bar until you find ‘Personality’. Select it and click add. You can now view the personality type of each player.
With these mentoring tips alongside good youth coaches, junior coaching, training facilities and training sessions, your youth teams will develop into world beaters in no time.
