✓ At a glance- Shadow of the Erdtree only features one ending
- The events of Shadow of the Erdtree have no impact on the endings of the base game
- This comes despite director Hidetaya Miyazaki seemingly confirming the existence of multiple endings prior to the DLC’s release
If you’ve already played through Elden Ring, then you’re probably well aware that the game has plenty of different endings depending on the choices you make throughout the game. Follow one character’s path all the way and you can get the true ending; follow another and you get something much worse.
So with the DLC finally here, you might be wondering if the same is true for Shadow of the Erdtree. Do your choices in the Land of Shadow impact what ending you get when you complete the DLC? We’re here to tell you what you need to know.
Does Shadow of the Erdtree have multiple endings?
No, Shadow of the Erdtree does not have multiple endings. In interviews prior to the DLC’s release, it was confirmed by Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki that the DLC will not feature one definite ending, but following the release of the DLC itself it has since become clear that only one actual ending to the game.
Unlike the base game which features six endings, Shadow of the Erdtree only features one ending.
This does make sense, as the events of the story are fairly linear, and there aren’t very many choices to be made, unlike in the base game which features a total of six endings based on the choices you make during your playthrough.
While the story of Shadow of the Erdtree is incredible, and definitely up there with some of the best stories in FromSoft games as a whole, we can’t pretend that we aren’t a little bit disappointed to only have one possible ending. That being said, we were spoiled with such a massive new world to explore, so it’s hard to be that upset by it all.
